OrienTaTion, The process of acculTuraTing freshmen, began The year. The Mixer was held To blend The new sTudenTs wiTh The old- and was The firsT sTep in The inducTion riTual. Seniors, puTTing freshmen Through embarrassing an- Tics, Took a large parT in OrienTaTion-The iniTiaTion riTes. Rolling obiecfs along sidewalk cracks and yelling TriTe sayings were some paces Through which The kids were puT. Finally, The freshmen who parTicipaTed in The fun were allowed in The senior dance free. Cards had been signed by cooperaTive seniors, a ToTal of 13 signaTures consTiTuTed a free pass. The firsT problem posed for The new sTudenTs was The elecTion of Their officers. PeTiTions were signed for candidafes by people They had never seen before. Campaigning among sTudenTs They had only been To school wiTh for Three weeks became a challenge To Those running. BalloTing was held, and The officers were chosen, The presidenT was inTroduced To The execuTive council and class proiecTs began. Beginning money-raising proiecTs early, in order To faTTen The Treasury, was The freshman goal. Various kinds of bake sales were held To build The money pile in The booksfore. Officers were Cliff Mayes, presidenT, Yolanda Gastellum, vice-presidenT, Jessie Flores, secreTary, and Hermina Juarequi, Treasurer.
