ATIO AL HO QR SCDCIETY 3 ia. ii 1 -,,ASf Early last fall the first Pueblo High School Chapter of the National Honor Society was ini- tiated by the Tucson High School Chapter at abeautiful candle-lighting ceremony, conducted before the entire Pueblo student body. During the ceremony, the new chapter was presented with a Chapter flag in Columbia blue and navy blue, a gift from the initiating chapter. In the foreground D. L. Secrist, Tucson High Chapter president, is congratulating Ed Andres, the first president of the Pueblo group. PUEBLO S FIRST STATERS X The signal honor of representing Pueblo High School for the fir st time as members of Girls State and Boys State went to the above pictured happy members of the Class of '57 LEFT TO RIGHT they are Andy Liechty Gene Bracamonte Judy Grimes Jay Busby Liz Merino Ed Andres and finsetj Rene Alvarez Boys State was held at Flagstaff on the campus of Arizona State College and Girls State was conducted on the local campus of the University of Arizona Achieving highly desired distinctions at the Flagstaff meetings were Ed Andres who was elected to the presidency of the Senate and Rene Alvarez who was appointed to a post on the Governor's cabinet Both Judy and Liz were honored by their co delegates Judy was voted out standing citizen of her city and Liz was elected to a permanent officer ship which entitles her to return to the Arizona campus this summer in order to assist the '57 group of Staters with the important business of organization. Delegates to the two annual meetings are selected by a faculty committee after the entire faculty and administration of the school is polled for nominations The award is based upon all- around schoolcitizenship and includesconsideration of achievement in school activities and indi- vidual character. The activityis sponsored by the American Legion Clubs and is conducted throughout the coun- try on an individual state basis. Schools send delegates in proportion to the school population.
