CHRISTMAS EVE I N O L D TUCSON Christmas Eve in Old Tucson was the theme of this Christmas mural done by the Commercial Art and Advance d Art Classes of Mr. Herb Wae - sch. The original idea for the mural was arrived at after class discussion and election. The picture was exe c ut e d onblackboard panels in colored chalks in desert tones. Among the regular pro- jects of the Commercial Art Class is the designing ofbook covers and the il- lustration ofmagazine ar - ticles and stories. The Advanced Art Class spends the majority of its tim e on individual pro- jects invarious art medi- ums including c a s ein s , charcoal, and pastels. In May, the combined art cla s se s of Pueblo High School collected examples of their best work for an art show that was open to the public.

Udall t e 11 s seniors about the duties of a Congressman. A Democrat, he explained his party' s national pro- gram and what its par- ticular effect on Arizona would be. His Republi- can opponent, Jack Spei- den, al s o talked to the same group, explaining his areas of opposition to Mr. Udall. ABOVE: State Senator H.S. Corbett described the organization of the Arizona State Legisla- ture and explained the work of the important committees. A strong friend of the state uni- versity, Senator Cor- bett, spent considerable time showing the con- nectionbetween the Uni- versity and the Legisla- ture. AT THE TOP is Arizona's Governor Ernest W. McFarland who makes a lasting impression on future voters of Arizona by his friendly willing- ness to discuss the political issues that face the state government. LOWER CENTER: Shown in the center of the first row is Maung Nynt K. Maung, Pakistan student at the University of Arizona, right after he had finished explaining to the group the tenets and customs of Buddhism. Seated on Mr. Maung's right are Miss Monica Morse, University of Arizona, an appren- tice teacher and Mr. Ted Pedersen also an apprentice teacher from the University of Arizona. On Mr. Maung's left is Mr. Phillip Woodruff, Pueblo English and Social Studies teacher. Seated on the risers behind the instructors is a part of an experimental Senior Class in English and Social Studies. The classes under the direction of Mr. Woodruff and Mr. Ciochetto and their apprentice teachers is combined in amodified core program in Humanities. In addition to the speakers mentioned above, the class has heard Mr. Rau1Castro, County Attorney, Mr. Ben J. McKinney, County Sheriff, Judge Clark Johnsong Dr. Bertram S. Kraus, University of Arizona Anthropology professor, State Senator Harry Ackermang and Mrs. Tova Eisenman. The subjects of the talks have concerned: Practical Politics, World Religions, The Races of Man, Man and the Lawg The Origin and Development of Great Ideas, and others. 98
