W 4 WE WON-Through the prayers of our well wishers . . . the grit and determination of the players and The will of the Almighty God, Co-Captain Joe Pannunzio receives the Knute Rockne Memorial Trophy. Coach Jack Parsons, Team mates, alumni and fellow students look on with joy as the Shamrocks receive the official Champions. A Victory From Heaven Roberta Riley stood to The left ot The Sun and to the right of God and she gave the Shamrock team, the human virtues . . . the muscle which knotted in John Lane's leg to drive him over the turf . . . the strength in Joe Pannunzio's hands to pull the ball carriers to the sod . . . And to the whole team, she gave a cheer: Victory, Victory that's our cry. She whispered that cheer down the Shamrock line as they waited Tor Dan Maroney's count and they all heard her . . . Behind every tackle, was desire . . . every block was desire . . , Desire that whipped a lean Freshman team tour years ago, into State Champions today. YesTerday's prayers . . . when whole classes went to their knees and said, Remember Oh, Most Gracious Virgin Mary. But one boy could only get down on one knee because the other had been damaged when he played Tootball as a Sophomore. In spirit he hovered in the huddle and ran out of it crying, Let's go! He was with every tackle and he made every block. Tom Whalen's will To play, was the will that won, Back in school it was cheers by iumping cheerleaders and shouts of happy classrnen, but out of the ioy came this prayer: Lord above Who gave us a body . . , Lord above Who Took our body and gave us victory . . . Lord, We give our thanks. And The stadium lay empty under the setting sun, and down on the field There was still a darkhaired cheerleader shouting: Ray, team! , 2 Pueblo Catholic High Shamrocks I fs.- aw 'Hg ' ' , Rig. an .
