PANTHERS FINISHED SECOND The Junior Varsity basketball team had a fine season, finishing with an overall record of 12 Wins and 3 losses and second in the conference with a record of 11 and 2. The Panthers, Whose performance improved greatly from the begin- ning of the season, were lead by Ju- lio Murrel C14 pts. per gameb, Raylon Adams C8 rebounds per gamej, and Robb Green 678W free throw shoot- erJ. The teams defensive play was outstanding, as shown by their num- ber one defensive ranking in the conference. They held their oppo- nents to an average of 41 points per game. These players should be a welcome addition to the varsity next year.

Coach Dean Cada. 1985 - he Year Of The Panthers Guard Rod Parker s defensive and ball- handling skills helped guide the Panthers to the conference crown. Parker led the conference in both assists and steals dur- ing the year. Parker was named to the Holiday Tourney's Second Team. 102 The 1984-85 basketball season will go down in Proviso West's history as the Year of the Panther. The Varsity Panthers, with- out a doubt the best team in Proviso's histo- ry, brought excitement and pride to Pan- ther Country. Led by Head Coach Lowell Lucas and Asst. Coach Dean Cada, the Pan- thers clinched the WSC for the second time in Proviso's history with a 14-O record C25-0 overallb. Winning the Proviso West Holiday Tour- nament by defeating Simeon and King was one of the highlights of the season. Ranked No. 1 in both the AP and UPI polls all sea- son, the Panthers received deserved recog- nition. Everyone on the team contributed out- standing efforts. Seniors Steve Bartels' and Robyn Davis' defense and rebounding, Mike Ingram's rebounding and shot-block- ing, Keith Sykes's scoring and junior Rod Parker's leadership were the main contri- butors. Also factors were Russell Williams and Eric Collins. Some of the special recognition the team received were interviews by Channel 5 and Channel 9 News and being named WLS Ra- dio Team of the Week. By far, this season marked Proviso West basketball's finest year. 5 Center Mike Ingram established himself as a domi- nant player in Illinois. Besides leading the WSC in rebounding, Ingram was the Holiday Tournament MVP and was ranked third in top college prospects. Also, Ingram was named the Player of the Year in the Sun-Times and was a part of the Top 5 Team in the Chicago Tribune.

SOPH SUCCESS FORM TEAM CONCEPT Playing in the shadow of the Varsity, the Sophomore Panthers also had a winter to boast about. Ending the sea- son with a 12-2 conference record Q18-2 overallj, the Sophomores took 2nd place in the conference behind Proviso East. The two losses to East were the Sophomores only ones. The team improved each Week from the start of the season and, stressing the team concept, played Well togeth- er. Their first place at the Aurora West Thanksgiving Tournament and their overtime win over Oak Park were this season's highlights. Pat Kennedy led the team in points scored and was second in rebounds, and Homer Rouse led in steals and as- sists. Reggie Burcy contributed with the most rebounds and was second in scoring. Sophomores Stress the team Concept' FROSH A's AND B's POST WINNING RECORDS Although ending the season with a 8-5 third place conference finish, the Frosh A-team had a disappointing season because eligibil- ity prevented them from playing With a full team. Their blowout of Glenbard West was the season's highlight. Key players were Tyrone Stokes, Ron Hopkins, Tyrone Claybrooks, and James Jarvis. The Frosh B-team improved constantly T throughout the year. Outstanding players were Mark Westphal, 118 points per gameb, Toice Wilson, Brian Grant, Dave Burns, and Mike Reed. FROSH B-TEAM.
