The team Was not rich in numbers, but it seemed they might challenge for a top conference spot. However, the '84 season turned out extremely disappointing. Fin- ishing the season in 7th place in the con- ference with a 1-6 record C3-6 overallj the Panthers' hopes for a Winning record were dashed. The Varsity did have their moments though. Their tremendous last-minute goal line stand to beat Wheaton Central 10-7 was one of the season's highlights. Also, crippling the first place York Dukes 20-0 in their last game, the Panthers fi- N- nally showed their true colors. Runningback Reggie Brown and lineman Tom Walsh were this year's most outstanding players and were named to the All-Conference team. Walsh and linemen Steve Wightkin and Nick Nagel were named to the All-Academic Conference team. Linebackers Eric Collins and Mike Akins and quarterback Rod Bradberry also put forth fine efforts. All things considered, the Panthers, Without some poor attitudes and excuses, could have easily finished atop the West Suburban Conference. . ope verrides Disappointing Season s ,, Vx , aa Q, 5 As Coach Clish looked back on the past sophomore football season, he was filled with disappointment at his team's record. With an 0-7 conference record and a 1-8 overall record, there didn't seem to be much to brag about. But as they say, there's a silver lining in every cloud. Coach Clish's players left him with an encouraging feel- ing that their football futures will be brighter. There were many great individual efforts, some of which led to records being broken. Dennis Hayden led the team with a record 61 solo tackles and quarterback Ke- vin Morrison set a new record with four touchdown passes. Reggie Chapman and Stacey Welch tied records for most carries in a single game t2D and most fumble re- coveries in a season 633, respectively. Chap- man also was honored as Most Valuable Player. Other stand outs included Mike Karpes and Steve Woods. .w....m...a..v-... V , Row One: Jack Bridson, Lavonn Gilbert, Tony Goodrich, Bill Popek, Eric Harden, Eldred Brown, Marcus Hardy.
