You Can't Take It With You 1983 SPRING PLAY The stage play, YOU CAN'T TAKE IT WITH YOU, was written by Moss Hart and George Kaufman and was pre- sented in May by Proviso West. The time is the 1930's and the entire play takes place in the Living room of Mar- tian Vanderhoff's llflob Verberl living room. This term living room is used loosely because here, meals are ea- ten, plays are written, snakes are col- lected, ballet practiced, xylophones played, and fireworks set off. Penny Sycamore QDebbie Martzl is Vander- hoff's daughter. She, among others, and her husband Paul flilick Roman- ellil and daughter Alice tNatalie Wrayi live with her father. Because this household is so bizarre, Alice feels her fiancee fTony Kirbeyl and his family will be frightened away due to the fact that the families are total opposites. In the end, Martin makes the families and the audience understand you must do what you can because you can't take it with you.
