D.E.C.A. is an organization for students enrolled in cooperative distributive education. D.E. is a work program in the career fields of marketing, retailing, and sales. The students compete against other high schools at the local, state, and national level. The areas ot competition are sales, advertising, display, mar- keting, research, and human re- lations. D.E.C.A. students attend work- shops on marketing, leadership conferences, and field trips. The class also takes a group of un- derprivileged children to the cir- cus each year. 42 The HERO club is a part of a nationwide organization called FHA-HERO. lt's purpose is to develop leadership and promote service. The Proviso West HERO club is lead by Mrs. O'Boyle. Students assume leadership re- sponsibilities as they plan and participate in this club in the classroom. All the members of the HERO club are on the HERO Cooperative Education work program and work in the after- noons or evenings in areas of food service, child care, and clothing. Office Education Association Offer Occupational Skills Office Education Association is dedicated to students interested in secretarial and clerical vocation's. In the O.E.A. club the two big l events of the year are the office elections and the Employer-employ- ee Banquet. In the elections students can run for office on the local level here at Proviso West. If they are an officer on the local level, they are eligible to run for office on state level which includes all the i schools in Illinois. If they win on the state level they are eligible to run for a national office which involves 13 states. At the end of the year the O.E.A. club has an employer-employee Banquet. This is where the students invite their employers for lunch to thank them for participating in the work program. Connie Saporito and Cheryl Mueller show their determination to get on the teachers 43 good side.
