D.E.C.A. is an organization for students enrolled in cooperative distributive education. D.E. is a work program in the career fields of marketing, retailing, and sales. The students compete against other high schools at the local, state, and national level. The areas ot competition are sales, advertising, display, mar- keting, research, and human re- lations. D.E.C.A. students attend work- shops on marketing, leadership conferences, and field trips. The class also takes a group of un- derprivileged children to the cir- cus each year. 42 The HERO club is a part of a nationwide organization called FHA-HERO. lt's purpose is to develop leadership and promote service. The Proviso West HERO club is lead by Mrs. O'Boyle. Students assume leadership re- sponsibilities as they plan and participate in this club in the classroom. All the members of the HERO club are on the HERO Cooperative Education work program and work in the after- noons or evenings in areas of food service, child care, and clothing.
