Under the direction ol' Mrs. Elizalneth Lewis, the Center, a segment ol' the English Uepartnicnt, provided individual assistance on a nonfcredit lmasis to any student wishing to increase his reading eliliiciency. Employing a Variety ol' material and machines, stuf dents were aided in the improvement of reading rate, comprehension, and Vocahulary. The Speech and l lear- ing Clinic, directed hy Mr. Charles Kloore, diagnosed and treated all types ol' speech disorders in addition to teaching lip-reading. Bar-burgers on Bun Ban 3500 Huge Hungers Dealing with Proviso's 3,500 different appetites, Mrs. Dorothy Accardi, head dietician, tries to varv the menus to appeal to all students. After serving a hrealcfast of rolls and juice to students with Nearly morning hun- gerf' the cafeteria staff prepares for its five daily lunch periods. With the help of twenty-six women, lunches range from spaghetti to chuck-wagon steak. Producing meals that are both nourishing and appetizing provides a challenge to the staff hut results in VVest,s well-fed students. The staff also supervises food preparation for banquets and other activities. With similar goals of service the matrons assist both students and teachers. Pinning on corsages at dances and routine maintenance of lounges and locker rooms are among their varied chores. Malrons: Pauline Barnas, Rose Carlson, Tillie Morilz.
