Under the direction ol' Mrs. Elizalneth Lewis, the Center, a segment ol' the English Uepartnicnt, provided individual assistance on a nonfcredit lmasis to any student wishing to increase his reading eliliiciency. Employing a Variety ol' material and machines, stuf dents were aided in the improvement of reading rate, comprehension, and Vocahulary. The Speech and l lear- ing Clinic, directed hy Mr. Charles Kloore, diagnosed and treated all types ol' speech disorders in addition to teaching lip-reading. Secretaries of English, physical education, and counseling depart- ments xvere concerned with specialized assignments, hut other departments depended upon the general secretarial pool for such services as mimeographing olf tests and grading of IBM examinations. Issuing texts, collecting lines and checking eligibility sheets were also functions of the general office staff.
