Freshmen boys engage enthusiastically in ci fast-moving game of soccer. Individual Capabilities Develop Through Sports Far from being considered supplementary in Proviso's curriculum, physical education is an important and in- tegral part of the total education program. Each student received four years of instruction in varied activities designed to develop his individual capabili- ties. Ten interscholastic sports drew hundreds of boys as active participants, but the PE classes gave every student the opportunity to take part in such team sports as touch football, volley ball and basketball, as well as swimming, golf, wrestling, gymnastics, and tennis. Classes in dance were a popular and valuable part of the girls' physical education pro- gram. Both boys and girls attended classes in first aid and hygiene and restricted gym classes, designed to make it possible For even the handicapped student to participate to the limits of his abilities. All avail- able activities were supported by trained and interested teachers. Special courses were scheduled for sports during the seventh hour to allow extra time for prac- tice and work in fundamentals to those taking part in interscholastic competition.
