These and many other questions are answered by the guidance counselors during their weekly sessions with Provisols students. Entering VVest as a freshman, a nervous student be- comes acquainted with his individual counselor who will help guide and plan his next four years. In addition to the major problems of curriculum and activities, coun- selors aid the student in meeting the small, day-tofday crises of forgotten lunch money, girls! ripped hcms and boys' lack of belts. Senior year the counselor serves as an invaluable source of information on both social and academic problems. Utilizing the most modern equipment, VVest's commer- cial department prepares students for the business world. Typing and shorthand provide aspiring secretaries with time-saving slcills. Office practice acquaints students with proper procedures in filing and initiates them into the intricacies of a variety of office machines from mimeograph to IBM. The distributive education pro- gram, under the direction of lWr. Harvey Rothenburg, gives a selected group on-the-job training during which they spend halt of each school day as actual wage-earm ers.
