Utilizing the most modern equipment, VVest's commer- cial department prepares students for the business world. Typing and shorthand provide aspiring secretaries with time-saving slcills. Office practice acquaints students with proper procedures in filing and initiates them into the intricacies of a variety of office machines from mimeograph to IBM. The distributive education pro- gram, under the direction of lWr. Harvey Rothenburg, gives a selected group on-the-job training during which they spend halt of each school day as actual wage-earm ers. These and many other questions are answered by the guidance counselors during their weekly sessions with Provisols students. Entering VVest as a freshman, a nervous student be- comes acquainted with his individual counselor who will help guide and plan his next four years. In addition to the major problems of curriculum and activities, coun- selors aid the student in meeting the small, day-tofday crises of forgotten lunch money, girls! ripped hcms and boys' lack of belts.
