Memorizing dates, learning about presidents, and worry- ing about Wars became part of the luniors, year as they tackled U. S. History. Thoreau, Emerson, and Melville became familiar names as they delved through the vari- ous phases of American Literature. For the first time Juniors faced a sea of faces and a war with nervousness as the prospect of giving a speech in Public Speaking loomed heavy on their minds. At Homecoming, Iuniors won third prize for their float modeled after a stage- coach. Enjoying a leisurely atmosphere of the Old Vvest they danced that nite Under the Vvestern Skies. At VVindsong,U the traditional Iunior dance, snoxvmen and twinkling Italian lights provided a winter them. Coke and potato chips were refreshments at a February coke hourf Stale Hearts was held a few days after Valen- tineis Day. March brought the National lVlerit Scholar- ship Qualifying Test, a three-hour scholarship test. At the elections they chose class and student council offi- cers. Juniors voted for the last time, realizing that the honor of being seniors was a short time away. Vocation- al conferences in the spring enabled Juniors to talk with outstanding business leaders about college and career opportunities. In C114 they obtained college catalogues and interviews to speak with college representatives. ln spring they chose their class rings of gold, silver, pearl, red, or blue. As they paid the deposit fee, they wonder- ed how they would hold on to the receipt until next year. Seeing the class above them graduate at the end of the year, luniors held their heads high. They were almost Seniors. President Rich Zolisk, Vice-president Joan Weiss, Secretory Pom Jorgcm- son, and Treasurer Jean Davolio.
