Varsity Matmen Take Third at Rich Tournament Nyckel Makes State Because Provisols wrestling team was in the process of rebuilding, it completed a dismal 3-12 record in which young and inexperienced wrestlers carried much respon- sibility during the long and unsuccessful season. ln the middle of the season, the wrestlers traveled to Rich East High School for the annual Christmas tourna- ment. The team wrestled well and placed third in the final standings. Among the young wrestlers who made excellent showings were: sophomore Mike Hennessey who, wrestling varsity, made All-Conference at 154, junior Al Lipper also wrestling varsity, made Honorable Mention in the Conference voting. Senior grappler Jerry Nyckel took first place in the district tournament at Proviso East and second place in the sectional tourna- ment at Downers Crove. The Most Valuable Senior Award went to Jerry Nyckel because of his season record and excellent showing at the Rich and district tourna- ments. Coach Yaeger expects next yearis team to be the best wrestling team West has seen, for this yearis young and inexperienced wrestlers, who did so well, will be seasoned veterans.
