This vear's varsity basketball games were constant batf tles ol' closely won contests. At the liirst game of the Christnias Tournament the Panthers bit and clawed to- ward another close delieat aaainst the llecl Devils ol' D Hinsdale. Playing host to kvillowbrook, the eagers clisf played the best team eliliort of the season. Led by the Des Plaines Valley Leagues leading scorer, Chuck Sim' ons, the Proviso Cats played as a close team and routed a tough Vlflillowbrook squad 7463. During the district tournament, Proviso Vvest traveled to Downers Grove where Proviso dominated play for three quarters against Downers, but lost by a 77-73 score. XVest's lorwarcl lohn Hobart and guard Chuck Simons were voted bv the league coaches to the Des Plaines Valley All-Star Team. Another commendable showing was made by guard Frank Yaceino who was given honorable mention in the all-league voting. The ,lay-Vees, Sophomore, and Freshmen teams completed high scoring seasons as they worked toward buildinv next vear's varsitv team. . D . .
