Band Officers Elected For First Time in '6 Three llroyiso Vllest hands provided music for various school and community activities throughout the school year. The Prep Band consisted ot approximately forty! lliye students, most ol' whom were freshmen. The cadet hand was made up ot tilfty completely uniformed players oi all classes. The Concert Band consisted of approxie mately eighty members plus nine talented majorettes. ln addition, there was an instrumental class to train students lor other hands. The bands held two candy sales in the calleteria to raise llunds for partial schol- arships lor twentyellour instrumentalists who were se- lected to attend the University ot VVisconsin's sum- mer music camp. Two maiorettes were selected to at- tend a majorette camp located at Butler University in lndianapolis, lndiana. The Cadet and Concert bands combined to provide musical entertainment at all home lfoothall games, and the instrumental class and Cadet and Prep Bands played tor liomebaslacthall games. Vvestls Concert Band, maiorettes, and color guard, participated in the lXflaywood Bataan Day Parade, and a winter and spring concert at the Proviso East Auditorium gave hand memhers, soloists, and ensembles an opportunity to dis- play their talents. Outstanding instruinentalists were selected on the hasis ol' ahility and desire to compete in the State Contest. At the final concert of the year medals were presented to the outstanding musicians lrom the Prep, Cadet, and Concert Band, while music pins were awarded to seniors and to deserving band memhers on the hasis ot superior contest grades, con- cert perlormances, attendance, and conduct.
