Proviso East Principal If Provisois growth and improvement continues at the same rate during the next 50 years, Proviso will continue to be a school worthy of our pride, comments Mr. Charles C. Holt genially. Arriving at school early, he meets everyone with a cordial greeting. He has a remarkable memory for names and faces and frequently stops in the hall to chat With students and teachers. Mr. Holt, who now acts as principal and assistant super- intendent at Proviso East, earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Southeast Missouri State College, his lVlaster's degree from the University of Illinois and is completing his Doctorls degree there. llis deep interest in education is evidenced by his posi- tion as President of the Illinois Association of Secondary School Principals. Cn February l, Mr. Holt left Proviso for eight months to act as Director of the Joint Testing Program in Washington, D.C. This national commission was appointed to study the use of aptitude and achievement tests in American schools. ln October Mr. Holt will return to Proviso East again.

Administrative Assistant College problems? Friendly advice is always available from administrative assistant, Miss Virginia Terhune. As chairf man of the College Committe and head of the College Day Program, Miss Terhune offers help to interested stuf dents. In connection with these duties, Miss Terhune toured 14 colleges and universities in the East during the fall, and various Midwestern schools throughout the year. Miss Terhune efficiently handles such varied problems as enrollment, summer school, office personnel, bulletin boards, students, permanent records, and the daily bulletins. After earning her BA at Illinois College in Iaclcsonville, Miss Terhune received her Master's degree in mathematics at the University of Michigan. She has also done graduate work at the Universities of Illinois and of Indiana. In addition to her other activities, Miss Terhune repre- sents the large high schools on a committee of three appointed by the Illinois Association of Secondary School Principals. The committee studied possibilities of standardizing school record forms from schools of different sizes in the state. Dean of Student discipline affairs constitute the Dean of Students at service to Proviso has in these fields. tudents and the administration of students, chief duties of Dr. Leslie Remley, Proviso East. Twenty-nine years of given this Dean a broad background Dr. Pxemley arrived at Proviso in 1931 when he began his duties as a science teacher. In 1938 he headed the Phy- s'cal Education Department as Director of Athletics. In 1957 he was named to his present position as Dean of Students. Dr. Remley received his bachelor of arts degree at Vliabash College and his Ph.D. at the University of Iowa. The Boy Scouts of America in the Proviso District take much of Dr. Remley's spare time as he serves as chairman of the Boy Scouts Advancement Committee. His hours away from school affairs and his office in Room 101 also involve Rotary Club meetings where he claims board membership. During the second semester Dr. Remley teak over Mr. I1o1t's job while he was on leave, and S. O. Storby became Dean. ADVISING STUDENTS and handling discipilinory problems give Dr. Remley cz close understanding of boys' and girls' difficulties of East. NO MATTER HOW PRESSING her duties, Miss Terhune hos time to help u college-bound student with enrollment and scholarship problems.
