Following in the footsteps of Proviso East, the West athletic teams have become members of a newly-formed athletic league. Their teams strive to uphold the record which Proviso East has set. Again duplicating Proviso East, Xilest has shown an amazing growth in its first vears of existence. Plans are already underway for a new academic wing to supplement the Present buildings. This rapid growth is tvpical of Proviso Township High Schools and ol the township itselli. It is ever changing and adapting to meet the needs of a growing community. This view of Memorial Garden presents ci sight not often seen. With the completion of the Wood Crafts building and Memorial l-lall, housing new girls' physical edu- cation facilities, the major buildings of Proviso were finished. These modern buildings lend a contrast between the old buildings and myself. They serve to show some of the exterior changes which have taken place in these past fifty years. Also lending a contrast is the quantity and variety of subject matter offered to each Proviso student in 1910 and in 1960. Students today may choose from 111 subjects plus music and physical education, while the student in 1910 had only 45 courses to choose from. Among the subjects available today are 12 courses in English, 16 years of study in foreign languages, and more than 20 different courses in physical education. Lk-, .A ,u..v..- aj ,. .. The trophy cases are filled with awards and plaques presented to Pirate athletes during the past fifty years of their outstanding achievements. Perhaps one of the finest achievements of fifty years of progress is to be found at Proviso West High School. 1 loolt to the west and see the plans and dreams of Proviso Townshipis interested citizens and administrators. For after several years of study and preparation, Proviso West High School was dedi- cated and opened as a two-year school in September of 1958. Under the direction of Dr. LeRoy Knoepe pel, superintendent since 1954, West is building a character of its own based on the foundation of East. A 1930 biology class shows off its modern equipment and facilities. roviso West is an excellent example of a modern high school both in design and administration. lts flowing lines and mosaic mural on the outside wall of the outdoor theater exemplify a new age. The faculty of Proviso West, composed of both teachers from Proviso East and teachers new to the township, direct the activities of 2200 students. The first graduating class in 1961 will establish Proviso Vllcst as a worthy running mate of Proviso East.
