Its activities not only develop muscular and mental co-ordination, but they also correspond to the individual needs of each boy. Through a program of classroom and field activities, the department seeks to develop a variety of abilities in its students. The instruc- tors train boys in such sports as softball, swim- ming, and gymnastics, as well as acquainting them with personal hygiene, first aid, social dancing, and other subjects. Through regular, restricted, or health class, each boy does work suited to his capabilities. In accordance with relatively low enroll- ments, the combined boys' and girls' physical education facilities prior to 1938 consisted of only two gymnasiums, a pool, and dressing rooms. That year brought the completion of the fieldhouse for boys containing two gym- ' 1 W nasiums, a pool, an indoor track, and class- ' it -- rooms.
