From seven teachers in 1910, the faculty grew along with Proviso to its present number of 183. Twenty-two new teachers greeted Proviso students for the first time in September. Four graduates of Proviso found themselves in familiar surroundings. Nine received degrees from the University of Illinois. ln addition to the classroom instructors, Mr. Everett Small, sophomore boys? counselor, and Mr. Derrill Brown, truant officer, fill positions on the new roster. Seeing many generations of Proviso students pass before them, thirty-one teachers have now served Proviso for at least twenty-five years. 1n 1956 Dr. Remley and Mr. Bergstrom received the gold watches recog- nizing the silver anniversary. After-school activities occupy much time for most faculty members. Sponsoring publications, directing plays or various activities, and coaching athletic teams are some of the extra-curricular duties of the faculty. Without the hel of facult advisers, or anizations would lack the benefit of ast ears, ex erience. P Y g P Y P Not only is it the aim of the faculty to instill in the students the questions and answers of the world, but more important, a line sense of values, higher moral standards, and the ability to analyze a situation with a clear, open, and intelligent mind. To replace retirees and to supplement the teaching staff three newcomers joined the staff the second semester. They are Miss Margaret Eubanks, Physical Educationg Miss Mabel Shoch, Mathematics, and Mrs. Carol Waite, Commercial. Page 12
