Universal Oil Products Company LOUIS ANCEL Maywood Attorney to the Board HATTIE HAUPT Secretary to the Board The Board of Education proved this year that they can accomplish many things at once Although the construction of Proviso West and the renovation of Proviso proper lay uppermost in their plans, they still performed their standard tasks. These included planning budgets, approving bills, considering bids, and selecting new teachers. Construction of the new school began in November. ln the fall of l953 freshmen and sophomores will enter Proviso West. It will house juniors in 1959, and in 1960 the three classes will make room for seniors. By l965 the two schools will be serving approximately 6500 students. The modernization plans for Proviso also consumed much of the school boardis time Returning Provisoites hardly recognized their home away from home, for the notable work at Proviso included the construction of a woodshop and the building of facilities to house the crowded girls, physical education classes and ever-growing music department. The l9l0 addition received many improvements within the building and to top it all off, the old building sports a new roof. Since the reconstruction continued into the fall, students had to adapt themselves to temporary lodg ings in the auditorium, the old business office, and the student council office. After viewing the results of the work, students agreed that the improved appearance merited the adjustment.
