Growing painsl Aware of the tremendous increase in grade school enrollment during the past ten years. the Proviso Board of Education determined to face the prohlem of housing an excess of students. The hoard hired llr. William C. Beavis to conduct a survey' on the prohalile growth of the township. To meet the increase. which would douhle Proviso's present student hody of HT00. Dr. Beavis recommended expanded facilities. Realizing the importance of puhlic relations work hefore a hond issue could pass. the Board of liducation named a Selection Committee. which in turn named a temporary' Citizens' Advisory Committee. This committee survey ed the situation and reported to the hoard its findings on the future growth of the township as projected hy the Beavis report. lpon the dishanding of this group. the hoard appointed a permanent Advisory Committee of approximately' thirty people chosen hy a new selection committee. lliscussing matters pertinent to the school sy stem. memhers represent their districts with respect to geographic location. sex. age. schooling. occupation. race. and nation- ality' background. A system of rotating memhership has been adopted wherehy mem- hers will serve terms of three years. one third heing selected each year. Having laid the groundwork. the hoard set November l9 as the date for voting on a hond. The proposed hond would appropriate 56,000,000 for huilding Proviso Wlest and 8750.000 for renovating the present huilding.
