YEARBOOK MESSAGE I think you have been fortunate to have had the opportunity to attend an educational institution which provides training in a variety of disciplines. Your direct and indirect associations among students in art, business, tech¬ nology, apprenticeship, and industrial arts can enable you to see your own interests, ambitions, viewpoints, and specialized education in broader perspective. These associations also provide you the opportunity to appreciate more fully the interests and viewpoints of others. When you are able to see yourself and others in this broader perspective, you are likely to realize more fully your own abilities and limitations and to be more tolerant of those who study and work and live about you. If this happens to you, you have achieved a measure of maturity that will be invaluable to you in your work as an employee and in your life as a citizen. ALBE RTA TO THE STUDENT BODY OF THE SOUTHERN ALBERTA INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY The year 1962-63 will go down in Alberta’s educational history as a vocational education year. It will have seen the coming into operation of the Northern Alberta Institute; it will have seen the erection of a number of vocational high school buildings or additions; it will have seen the erection of further much needed facilities at the Southern Alberta Institute. All of this activity points to the realization by our citizens and by our various levels of government that the sort of education and training given by such insti¬ tutions is of great value to those who receive it, and that the welfare of our whole society depends upon having people who are adequately prepared to do useful and necessary work. Through its staff and its graduates the Southern Alberta Institute has, over the years, developed a high reputation and has contributed greatly to the design of the more extensive program now in prospect. Institute graduates may take pride in being part of this example and leadership. May I commend the Editor and staff of the Yearbook for their effort and industry, and to all may I express the hope that you may find profit and satis¬ faction as you enter upon the careers for which your labours at the Institute have prepared you. 5
