IN MEMORIAM It is with deep regret that we record the death, on July 5, 1961, of Miss Betty Code, the Principal ' s Secretary. Miss Code died unexpectedly of a cerebral hemorrhage whilst vacationing in Colorado. She was first appointed to the Institute staff as Principal ' s Secretary in May 1953. She served faithfully and conscientiously. She was willing and cheerful and was always ready to assist those who needed her services whether in the line of duty or beyond. She was loved by her colleagues and respected by all her associates. We deeply regret her passing and trust that her exemplary life will serve as an inspiration to us all.

The editorial staff of the Tech Art Record is justifiably proud of this 1962 edition. It must certainly rank as one of the finest yet published. Although the basic format has been retained, several improvements have been introduced. The elimination of blank pages, the generous use of spot drawings, and a more graphic presentation of candids are among the more important innovations. Once again the printed word has been minimized. The art work, moreso than any other single feature, gives the Tech Art Record its individual identity. This year we have been most fortunate in having A.C.A. students Milt Fredlund and Hugh Laurie as Art Editor and Assistant Art Editor respectively. Milt designed the cover and the divider pages, while Hugh produced the some one hundred spot draw¬ ings that make the book a living thing. The events of the school year have been well recorded. For this we must recognize the efforts of Photo Editor Otto Donadt and his staff, and the wonderful cooperation of the Emery Weal Staff. We sincerely hope that this book will in future years bring back fond memories of the 1961-62 year at S.A.I.T.
