A MESSAGE TO THE STUDENTS FROM E. W. Wood

Page 12 text:

13th AVENUE AND lOth ST. N.W., CALGARY SOUTHERN ALBERTA INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY TO THE STUDENTS OP THE CLASS OF ' 62: General Thomas Stonewall Jackson was accidentally killed hy one of his own sentries. His death occurred one night at a veiy critical time during a battle in the American Civil War. His death was a catastrophe for the Confederate armies and an irreparable loss to General Robert E, Lee. Had Jackson lived, who knows but that the Confederate armies might have won the war. Concerning this tragedy Sir Winston Churchill said, Thus on small agate points do the balances of the world turn . Early in the new year personnel officers from various companies will be visiting the Institute to select, from among the graduating students, prospective employees for their companies. The decision reached during your own interview may be favourably or even adversely affected by the interviews immediately preceding and following your own. The applicant ahead of, or behind, you may or may not have personality-plus. The interviewers may have had a sleepless night on the plane. A number of other factors may affect the result of your interview. These may appear at the time to be trivial matters but upon the result may well depend the manner in which you will spend the remainder of your life. It may mean the difference between an appointment in Alberta and in Eastern Canada. Perhaps between Toronto and Montreal or between Edmonton and Chalk River. Who knows? Your life and that of the wife and family which may one day be your ' s may very well be affected by the decision made at this interview. Whatever decisions may be reached, it is my hope that you will have learned, as a result of your attendance at the Institute, to continue to learn as you go out into the world of industry and that you will develop your abilities to the full, not only to your own satisfaction but also to the satisfaction of whoever employs you. Our best wishes for success go with you. E.W. Wood, Principal. TECHNICIAN COURSES ■ COLLEGE OF ART TRADE TRAINING HeVENING CLASSES I CORRESPONDENCE COURSES
