To the Student Body of the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology In this age of breath-taking advance in science and technology everyone needs more and better education in a greater and greater variety of fields. Not only do we require more well-trained professional people such as doctors, lawyers, dentists and teachers, but we also require more men and women who are highly skilled in various trades and vocations. Thirty years ago a Grade VIII education was considered adequate for most people. Today a Grade XII education is usually not enough. The need for a university education or further education along technical lines beyond high school is increasing rapidly, and facilities for such training are being provided on an ever greater scale from year to year. In these times technical training is not regarded as inferior to academic or professional training and is not being shunned by students of good ability. This is a very important and timely develop¬ ment because, as someone has said -- The society which scorns excellence in plumbing because plumbing is a humble activity, and tolerates shoddiness in philosophy because it is an exalted activity, will have neither good plumbing nor good philosophy. Neither its pipes nor its theories will hold water. During the next ten years growing numbers of high school students will wish to pursue courses of technical training and should be given every encouragement to do so. The Editor and members of his staff have devoted much time and careful thought to the preparation and production of this fine Yearbook. It is a faithful record of many notable activities and events in which you have played,a part. Preserve it carefully for the future. In days to come its pages will bring back a host of happy memories of the fond dreams, the warm friendships, the ambitions, the hopes and the fears, and the trials and tribulations that you experienced during this year at school.
