PERSEVERANCE DEDICATION In 1916 an era began; in I960 an era ended .They are not one and the same era, for, indeed, several important chapters have been written into the history of the Pro¬ vincial Institute of Technology and Art since its inception in 1916. That I960 was indeed the end of an era cannot be disputed. Its significance was two-fold. The official name of the Institute became the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology, severing forever a most tangible link with the past. It saw, too, the in¬ evitable parting of the ways of the Institute and the University of Alberta in Calgary, the latter moving to its new campus. The scrolls on the following pages are ample testi¬ mony to the spirit of mutual understanding and cooperation that existed during the “sharing” years. Each institution enters the new era with a campus of its own, and therefore with the opportunity to put into effect well formulated plans for expansion to better meet the educational needs of community, province and nation. To the future of the South¬ ern Alberta Institute of Technology — to the future of the University of Alberta in Calgary — we dedicate this 34th edition of the Tech Art Record. May each reach its full potential and a new stature in the community of learning institutions.

H During your stay at Tech you have received instruction to better equip yourself for a future occupation. Also, while attending Tech you have become familiar with methods of meeting and making friends to make your stay more enjoyable. By combining these two phases of training, you have prepared your¬ self to be an intelligent citizen of our complex world. With this in mind, the yearbook aims to record the many wonderful moments which you have had during your stay at the Institute. The recording of the numerous activities ensures enduring memories of these wonderful and pleasant moments.
