FCREWCDRD YOU ARE THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD. SO LET YOUR LIGHT SHINE BEFORE MEN THAT THEY MAY SEE YOUR GOOD WORKS AND GLORIFY YOUR FATHER WHO IS IN HEAV- EN. QSt. Matthew, 5: 14-16, We the students of Providence High School, realize that as the youth of today we are the leaders of tomorrow. As tomorrow's light we can shine brightest if we choose careers that will enable us to influence large numbers of people in their thought and consequent action. In recognition of this fact, we of the annual staff choose to base our 1959-60 PHILOTHEAN on a book entitled UCAREERS THAT CAN CHANGE YOUR WORLDQ, by Father james T. Keller, S. J., founder of the Christophers. The aim and particular purpose of this book and of the Christophers is to emphasize what one person can do, with Godis help, to raise the standards of the spheres of influence which shape the destiny of all men, especially in U government, 21 education, 3j social service, LQ labor relations, 59 literature and GJ entertainment. In this book Father Keller shows that by placing good Amer- icans in positions in these fields we can provide the moral power and strength needed to allow our nation to grow in good, healthy surroundings. Father Keller also stresses that each and every one of us has the ability to hold one of these positions, and it is our duty as Americans to utilize this faculty. Providence High School has given us the incentive to form the beliefs and ideals which will guide us and empower us to shine brightly before all men. Through variety of curricula and extracurricular of- ferings, and the character training given us during these four years, we are alloted the power to be better prepared to recognize and select a career that can change the World ref...

Although deeply involved in daily activities, P.H.S.'ers enjoy the scenic landscape lying just outside their classroom windows. From north, south, east, and west, the Providence campus presents a striking picture with its rolling green lawns, huge pecan trees, mansion-like convent, and quaint courtyard. For many years, and now in 1960, these symbols of beauty and joy create an atmos- phere of peace at P.H.S. The Augusta Street entrance to P.H.S. offers this panoramic view of the building front and the southwest campus. Side by side, the convent and P.H.S.'s distinctive symbol, the cross, dominate this view of the middle of the campus. Full rustling trees peacefully shade P.H.S.'s southeast entrance during the noon hours.
