the Atomic Age As teen-agers of today we 'are facing two alternatives: a peaceful, united world. one indivisible: or a burning, conflagration, a chaos. What has brought this two-fold pic- ture into focus? A tiny element of God's creation, the atom. Ever since Albert Einstein, in his theory of relativity, his e:mc2, released the potentialities of the atomfmun has discover- ed its fundamental characteristic, power. This power has been used in the past for two pur- poses. good and evil. It is good when mankind uses it to aid us: it is evillwhen he makes it destroy. ' - ' V y , We students, looking to our future, want to face one which promises peace. To what other person could we teen-agers ol the atomic age better turn than to Our Blessed Mother for peace and protection? Mary, whose namesignities powerand protection, is our guiding star. Our atomic world rests in her hands. For this reason, we lovingly dedicate our 1958 PHILOTHEAN to Mary under the title we have given her, Our Lady of the Atomic Age. ,May she ever guide men in power that they may make wise use of God's creation, the atom. With her assistance we can look to a bright future, an atomically peaceful world.
