Some paint its natural charms as seen in the San Antonio River. Others paint its people, the crowds that daily throng its streets. For some San Antonio's modern archi- tecture has appeal, while others are captivated by the Spanish at- mosphere that pervades its missions. In all these things San An- tonio differs fromother cities, in these lie the city's singular beauty. This year the Philothean Staff brings you a few of the scenes we enjoy as friends of San Antonio. With these scenes we try to paint a colorful and moving pic- ture of school life during the year 1956-57. Our pattern is one of class and club activities, showing you life at Providence High. - ' ' ' -j-L'j y if ..-E J iri' Q . 4 , -Q 2 4 T1 gifei j .gffisaisfi -..il gg ig 1-S ' ...-L - Y -- - 1 f -' Q' ' mg' 'Y ' ,. People of all ages and occupations appreciate the artistic value of our city. Local artists capture the city on canvas and outsiders join their number. Numerous organizations help further art in San Antonio and institutes offer classes in art and art appreciation. The McNay Art Institute, Pan American Galleries, and the Whitte Museum give San Antonio art lovers an opportunity to study fine works of art. Yearly, local artists exhibit their works in the River Art Show. San Antonians admire paintings and sketches along the river banks. Because we are proud of the way our city has grown and is growing into a beauty spot of the Southwest, we dedicate this issue of the Philothean to San Antonio, our city artistically beautiful. In the artists stu- dio, the apprentices assisted Liebe Bradicich, master craftsman and an- nual editor, and Rita Gianotti: the in- dependent workers and assistant ed- itor, in molding, designing, and sketch- ing their work of art. The layout artists, Kathy Brown, Olga Aldrete, Iudy Elder, Pat Dyess, Doris Iuenke and Mary Margaret Logan took their slates in hand and produced a rough sketch of the con- tents of the book. The co-art editors, Patti Popp and Ierry Barbera, gave it a finishing touch ot color and beauty. The painting of the prose found throughout the annual was contributed by the talented pens of Patsy Elder, Ianet Yaegar, Margaret McLemore, and Cynthia Vollmer. Ruth Ann Grams and Gilda Gorrell completed the Philothean with their interesting shots on and around the campus. The seniors are required to take homemaking, which home includes cooking, sewing, housing, child care, nursing, and fourth year religion. They are free to choose any elective which they feel will aid them. Some of these are: chemistry, English IV, art, speech, shorthand II, typing II, and clerical office practice. Activities in the senior class range from decorating the halls at Christmas, the Ring Ceremony, to the Senior Luncheon. All of these activities are planned for the girls so that final year of high school will be remembered always. 28 fenfbfs Prepare foffzf are fbfozfgb OLGA AMAYA St. Michael Tech High School 1 Future Nurses 4 Business Club 3 X xxx fig WX M M LOLA AMESQUITA Sacred Heart MARIANNE BLAIR Little Flower Student Council Rep. 4 Science Club Vice-President 4 Pro-Vue Staff 4 Marian Choristers 2, 3, 4 Honor Roll 2, 3 FHA 1 YCS 2, 3, 4 Sodality 3, 4 PNC 4 MARGARET BONNER Helotes Parish Red Cross Rep. 4 Business Club 4 Library Attendant 3, 4 Honor Roll 1, Z BARBARA ANN BARCELLONA St. Francis Marian Choristers Historian 4 Business Club 2, 3, 4 FHA 1 Marian Choristers 2, 3, 4 CONSUELO BOTELLO St. Cecilia YCS 3 Marian Choristers 2 LIEBE MARYA BRADICICH St. Anne Philothedn Staff 1, 2, 3, 4 Editor 4 C.
