Sophie Louie mee! yew fnffzlvfffezzn 4512! If you were curious why five seniors, three juniors, two sophomores and two freshmen headed regularly to the library as soon as that outside buzzer sounded the .ill clear signal after school hours, then let these two pages clue you in. They weren't going to check out a book, but to put one out. This volume of The Philothean is the fruit of their labor. To produce a book that would be a credit to Providence High School and to develop a theme that would be of interest to you students has been the main objective of the staff. In order to accomplish this, the staff has seized every opportunity to gain further knowledge in yearbook craft. First, the mem- bers perused other annuals and magazines by the hundreds for layout ideas, secondly, the entire staff, Editor barring none, journeyed as far north as Denton, Texas, to attend the Texas High School Press As- sociation annual meeting in December, It was at this meeting that they brought back the coveted All- Texas rating for the Launch out into the deep volume of the Philothean. Next, the twelve strong have attended all local A. P. A. meetings. Mary Mainz represented the school at one meeting by giv- ing a five minute talk on the use of color in the book. The sincere wish of all members of the staff is that you students may derive pleasure, knowledge, and a tinge of nostalgia with each perusal of your 1953 annual. But most ot all, they want this volume ever to be a reminder to you of your duty to be a va- liant woman.
