Prospect's varsity basketball team enjoyed one of its better campaigns of recent years this season. The degree of success attained by the Knights was due mainly to their coach, Mr. Collier, who, in addition to teaching them the fundamentals of offensive and defensive play, instilled in them a team spirit and pride in accomplishment that aided tremendously. The highlight of the season was the team's triumph in the Joliet Holiday Tournament. To win this tournament the Knights had to defeat three fine teams, thus making the victory particularly satisfying. Prospect's deliberate offense and tenacious defense were led by veteran guard Bill Phillips, who contributed his second fine varsity season to the basketball team. Other starters were guard Steve Kerr, forwards Steve Johnsen and Jim Larocco, and center John MacKay. The Knights could not win the conference championship because of their two losses to Maine West, but as the season drew to a close our boys were in a tight three-team race for second place and were anticipating the regional tournament. Encouragement came in all forms.

.lUNlOR VARSITY BASKETBALL. FRONT ROW: Rich Froemling, Tony Ku- lasa, J. D. Thorne, Rich Pauly, Paul Peterson, Fred Wesley, Larry Grundt. ROW TWO: Gary Guerin, Dan Agard, Bill Dax, Tom Beard, Ray Kleinhuizen, Jack Pollard, Graig Wolf, Coach Arseneau. BOTH J-VS AND SOPHS After a rather dismal start, the Prospect junior varsity basket- ball team roared into high gear and appeared well on its way to a conference championship as the season's end ap- proached. The iayvees lost their first game, but they were unbeatable from that point as they swept through fifteen games without defeat. A first-place finish certainly seemed like- ly, and Coach Arseneau had good reason to be proud of his team. Mainstays of the team were J. D. Thorne, Tom Beard, and Dan Agard. During the course of the season the whole team showed consistent improvement on both offense and de- fense, and after posting a fine record this year, they are look- ing forward to competing on the varsity level as seniors. Among the season highlights were twin victories over Forest View, Wheeling, and Maine West squads, as well as victories over all other league opponents. 4 Dan Agard waited for the right moment to shoot. That extra quarter-inch counted. J. D. Thorne leaps up for two points.
