Prospect's varsity basketball team enjoyed one of its better campaigns of recent years this season. The degree of success attained by the Knights was due mainly to their coach, Mr. Collier, who, in addition to teaching them the fundamentals of offensive and defensive play, instilled in them a team spirit and pride in accomplishment that aided tremendously. The highlight of the season was the team's triumph in the Joliet Holiday Tournament. To win this tournament the Knights had to defeat three fine teams, thus making the victory particularly satisfying. Prospect's deliberate offense and tenacious defense were led by veteran guard Bill Phillips, who contributed his second fine varsity season to the basketball team. Other starters were guard Steve Kerr, forwards Steve Johnsen and Jim Larocco, and center John MacKay. The Knights could not win the conference championship because of their two losses to Maine West, but as the season drew to a close our boys were in a tight three-team race for second place and were anticipating the regional tournament. Encouragement came in all forms.

TO VICTORY IN SWIMMING Practice and more practice made perfect. A group of determined frosh-soph swimmers and their coaches, Mr. Barrett and Mr. Sandine, began practicing early each morning before breakfast at the Northwest Suburban Y.M.C.A. The key word of the tankers' season was improvement. More precise timing, more adequate stroking, and a smoother style were all goals toward which the young swimmers worked. Al- though their overall record was not as desirable as originally expected, the frosh-soph team's marked improvement was evi- dent at two tinal meets of the year. Prospect won both meets and established eighteen new school records. Great individual improvement among the frosh-soph swimmers was very en- couraging, and the outlook for next year promised to be more successful. Prospect gained points with a perfect back dive. .xl , cg.: , rx .f ' ' i s . Tai. a ' .- . - - - K ,-' un, ,.f ' 'L k .' ,M gifs ju, -1 Pw r I i -gg: Y ' 3'5 -'f-e, ' it 1 .Yr L' F TQ '1 r .
