Modern merchandising, retailing, buying, selling, shipping, advertising, and displaying were taught in a special course in salesmanship. Participants in the program spent several hours each morning in the classroom. During the afternoons students received actual training in occupa- tional techniques at neighborhood stores. Employment secured credits toward graduation and provided daily pay. Advisor l Mr. Seibel, President Penny Schelsky, Vice-president Doug Pat- terson, Secretary Julie Christensen, and Treasurer Patricia Tucker organized special activities. Penny Schelsky had academic classes in the morning and earned money D.E. students learned the method of setting type for advertisments. as a cashier in the afternoon. DlSTRlBUTlVE EDUCATION CLUB. AND THE NATURAL SCIENCES Senior members guided freshman proiects. To provide additional educational opportunities for those stu- dents interested in biology and to promote further interest in natural sicences were the goals of the Biology Club this year. Keeping these goals in mind, the club's olticers, President Phil Fritchey, Vice-president Allen Krueger, Secretary Linda Clark, and Treasurer Paula Mast, planned many interesting and in- formative programs. Under the supervision of Mr. Clark, members took field trips to the Indiana Dunes State Park and to several pharmaceutical laboratories. The club also viewed a film on the Natural History Museum. Rick Lynch entertained students with a talk on Humboldt State College in Arcata, California, where he had majored in marine biology for six weeks. The D.O. Club, under the supervision of Mr. Darling, was an outgrowth of the Diversiiecl Occupations program. The state required the program to sponsor a club in which the partici- pants could learn the rules of parliamentary procedure. There- fore, meetings were conducted during class periods. Required courses were taken in the morning hours, and the elective hours were used tor the D.O. program. Students in the pro- gram left Prospect in the afternoon to pursue specialized study experiences in a skilled trade. Most of the students in the pro- gram plan to earn their tuture livelihood with occupational skills acquired through Prospect's Diversified Occupations program. DIVERSIFIED OCCUPATIONS CLUB.
