BANNERS-BALLS-BOOSTERS This year's Girls' Recreation Association program, under the direction of Miss Freeman and Miss Blose, emphasized intra- mural activities in the sports of volleyball, basketball, bowling, softball, and tennis. The G,R.A. board assigned several repre- sentatives to organize each sport and to coach the teams. Bowling, the newest and most popular activity, was held at Thunderbird lanes every Wednesday. For the first time this year awards were given to the winning teams in all sports and to participating players of these winning teams. f it-:sive sins.,-, The Pep Club, under the sponsorship of Miss Blose and Miss Freeman, strived to instill all Knights with enthusiasm for ath- letics and pride for the school. Proiects for the year were the familiar fight banners in the cafeteria and the victory buttons that students ware. Also, permanent posters were made for the Athletic Department. Senior members of the club could be identified by their blue and gold pep pins. USE OF VOICE ENCOURAGED Getting together to discuss styles of folksinging, sharing chord- ings and arrangements, listening to one another's latest view on current folk singers, and having fun with music were the major purposes of Prospect's newest club, the Folk Music Club. Sponsored by Mrs. Paxton, and headed by President Marsha Romer, Vice-president Ellen Haderly, and Secretary- treasurer Larry Stein, the club met every Thursday to sing folk music and to plan special activities such as hootenanies tor the benetlt and enioyment ot other folk music enthusiasts. Participation in Individual Speech Events was not open to everyone. This activity was not an organized club but a part ot the National Forensics League. In accordance with require- ments for membership in NFL, students had to earn points to loin Individual Speech Events. Members used the school facili- ties to practice for district, sectional, and state contests which were held during the year. Mr. Ronald Sims and Mr. Leo Hundt advised and assisted stuaents in ten events including poetry recitations and prose and play reading. ee pee INDIVIDUAL SPEECH EVENTS. Assuming the responsibilities of serving Prospect students and faculty members, the Library Club operated the circulation desk, tiled books on the appropriate shelves, and managed the magazine room. Club members willingly answered ques- tions about the library, suggested helpful and interesting books, and aided debaters in research protects. Each student librarian was required To work one period daily to earn yearly service awards ot bronze and silver. Guided by the librarians, club members planned seasonal meetings. The Junior Engineering Technical Society, sponsored by Mr. Baker, promoted an interest in mechanical and electrical en- gineering as a future trade tor high school students. JETS Pres- ident Don St. Clair, Vice-president Paul Thompson, Secretary- treasurer John Stitt, and club members visited engineering plants to attain a better understanding of the background, working conditions, and iob opportunities in the engineering field.
