TRACK WINS EXACTED With the coming of spring, indoor and outdoor track equip- ment was again taken from storage for use by Mr. Calisch's varsity team. Prospect's trackmen participated in three cate- gories ot events: the sprint, the distance run, and the field event which included high jumping, pole vaulting, broad iump- ing, discus throwing, and shot putting. Mr. Calisch and Assist- ant Coach Mr. Gattas encouraged sprinters to greater speeds in the running ot the 50-yard dash, the high and low hurdles and the relay races. Distance runners concentrated on endur- ance on the mile and halt-mile courses. Team star Gary York surpassed his own record tor the mile run, scoring additional points for Prospect. Practicing with the varsity runners, the frosh-soph track team concentrated on increasing speed, building endurance, and utilizing every last ounce of energy. These young track men participated in all events: high iump, broad iump, pole vault, discus, shot put, hurdles, and relays. Besides the regular con- ference meets, the track team participated in the North Shore Invitational Tournament on March 20. Every day after school the sprinters went through a rigorous practice session to boost their skill and technique in preparation for competition at con- ference relay meets. Head Coach Mr. Calisch encouraged and inspired his trosh-soph team to continue Prospect's winning tradition. A long stride and a high sprint were required by this event. VARSITY AND FROSH-SOPH TRACK.
