The fine coaching of Mr. San- dine and Mr. Szymanski and the daily practice on Prospect's for tough conference competition. Returning varsity letter- men Tom Bryant, Tom Graves, and Tom Johnson helped to post the season's outstanding record of wins. Frosh-soph team members concentrated on the development of basic tennis skills, while varsity players polished more advanced tactics. Emphasis on perfected techniques, physical fitness, and smooth stroking gained victories for our hard-working Netmen. FROSH-SOPH TENNIS. PAR-FECTION Cold spring weather did not discourage the varsity and frosh- soph golf teams. Beginning in March, every evening was spent on the Mount Prospect Country Club golf course in an effort to learn new skills and to improve basic strokes. This year's team was determined to beat last year's excellent playing record and sixth place rating in the state meet. Mr. Collier coached all of the boys on the basics of golf and inspired a competitive spirit and desire to win meets against other schools. However, only five boys on each level participated during this year's golf season. The winning scores equal the sum of the four lowest team scores. During the season Prospect often boasted record scores. Golfers practiced in the field house while the snow still covered the golf course. 1 QJQQ.. was .sszefs :f Rick Lynch demonstrates the correct stance. i iii!! .......i Prospect Prospect Prospect Prospect Prospect Prospect Prospect Prospect Prospect Prospect Prospect Prospect Prospect Prospect 1964 VARSITY SCORES . . . . 313 Glenbrook South . .. .. 269 Elgin Larkin ..... .. .. 313 Forest View ......309 MaineWest.... .. .. 319 Barrington ... .. .. 319 Arlington ... ..319 Palatine... .. .....,,311 Deerf1eId....... .. .. 303 Glenbrook South .. .. 267 Glenbrook North . ......267 ForestView..... ......316 Deerf1eld...... ......332 MaineWest..... .. .. 303 Glenbrook North GOLF. TRACK WINS EXACTED With the coming of spring, indoor and outdoor track equip- ment was again taken from storage for use by Mr. Calisch's varsity team. Prospect's trackmen participated in three cate- gories ot events: the sprint, the distance run, and the field event which included high jumping, pole vaulting, broad iump- ing, discus throwing, and shot putting. Mr. Calisch and Assist- ant Coach Mr. Gattas encouraged sprinters to greater speeds in the running ot the 50-yard dash, the high and low hurdles and the relay races. Distance runners concentrated on endur- ance on the mile and halt-mile courses. Team star Gary York surpassed his own record tor the mile run, scoring additional points for Prospect. Practicing with the varsity runners, the frosh-soph track team concentrated on increasing speed, building endurance, and utilizing every last ounce of energy. These young track men participated in all events: high iump, broad iump, pole vault, discus, shot put, hurdles, and relays. Besides the regular con- ference meets, the track team participated in the North Shore Invitational Tournament on March 20. Every day after school the sprinters went through a rigorous practice session to boost their skill and technique in preparation for competition at con- ference relay meets. Head Coach Mr. Calisch encouraged and inspired his trosh-soph team to continue Prospect's winning tradition. A long stride and a high sprint were required by this event. VARSITY AND FROSH-SOPH TRACK.
