NEW CCDACH IS VICTORIOUS Captain Jim Herod shows Rick Fredinger the art of applying the guilotine. This year the iunior varsity wrestling team posted one of the best seasons in the school's history. They placed second in the Mid-Suburban Conference and finished the season with a 7-3 record. The team earned impressive victories over Maine West, Arlington, Glenbrook North, and Wheeling. Our boys also placed second in the East Leyden Triangular. Mr. Shir- mang coached a team comprised mostly of juniors, however, he was never able to coach a set team because of numerous iniuries and the changing ot team levels by many boys. The J.V. grapplers drilled on wrestling movements in series, and during the year they learned new escapes, reversals, and counter moves to win the meets. These moves were practiced from the referee's position. Heavyweight Kim Schier drilled on pinning combinations. JUNIOR-VARSITY WRES- TLING. CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP Prospect varsity grapplers boasted the best season ever with a 7-O conference record and an il-O standing in dual meets. Coach Mudge can certainly be proud of his first unde- feated season as a wrestling coach. With daily practice of the basic moves and counter moves, our boys were prepared to face any opponents. Highlighting the season's triumphs was the 23-i6 victory over previously undefeated Deerfield. This key meet gained undisputed possession of first place in the conference for Prospect. Prospect matmen claimed eight champions and a first place rating in the Main East Quad- rangular and placed second in district competition. The out- standing records of four varsity wrestlers permitted entry in sectional competition: Bill Becker ii-4-l-ii, George Freeland C20-li, Earl Smith H5-Qi, and Mark Pasdiora ll?-l-li. A single disappointment, fifth place in the Prospect Holiday Tournament, marred a perfect season. Captains George Free- land and Bill Becker led the team to decisive wins in the final meets of the seasn against Forest View and Glenbrook South. Co-captains George Freeland and Bill Becker iockeyed for positions.

Exhibiting above average skills, Pete Smith and Bill Witt- meyer helped the team place second in the district tournament. During the year the sophomores practiced pinning combina- tions, take-downs, escapes, and reversals. Through exhausting efforts, they finished the season with a record of 6-l. Bob Link and Don Burkhardt led the freshman wrestling team to a fairly successful season. The boys earned wins over teams from Palatine, Glenbrook North, Glenbrook South, Niles North, and Wheeling, compiling a final conference record of 5-4. They also earned second place in the District 214 Tournament at Wheeling. Mr. Saum coached the freshmen and taught them how to execute take-downs, pinning combinations, reversals, and escapes.
