Because of this. we can't wait to split. - . . . THE WAY WE WERE It was a time for change. a time for staying the same. Boring. brown study halls. Hearty party at the falls. YOu, Mrs. Dalto. have shown a vast amount of patience and understanding to all those students who have been lucky enough to pass your way. You have been the source of unfailing guidance and care to the Proctorian staff. Our school is fortunate enough to have acquired the knowledge, skill. and leadership of Mrs. Dalto. which has helped make our years at Proctor High memorable ones. Activities CHORUS The high school chorus. under the direction of Reeta Coughenhour. was very aclive this year. In addition to the annual winter and spring concerts. many chorus members participated in the annual Green Mountain Regional Festival. held this year at Mill River Union High School. Also this year. four members of the music department were chosen for the AII-State concert in Burlington, and two members were chosen for the All-New England concert in Glastonbury. Connecticut. The marching band performed in several parades including the Alletate Parade in Brattleboro. the Loyalty Day Parade in Rutland. the Bicenten- nial Parade in Chittenden. and the annual Memorial Day Parade in Proctor. DRAMA CLUB The drama club this year was directed by Becky Fenton with the assistance of Vicky Papageorge. This year's production. Infancy . was written by Thornton Wilder. A performance was given for the public in the Proctor High School Gymna- sium. Once again. Proctor participati ed in the District One-Act Play Festival held this year at Mill River Union High School. Unfortunately. we were not chosen to go on to further competition, but there's always next year! PUBLICATIONS The Praetorian and Sutherland staffs were again successful in producing high quality sludent publications under the leadership of Mrs. Dalto and Mrs. Sherman. This year's Praetorian staff is the hrgesl ever. Our new publisher made it possiblefor us to produce a bigger and better qualityI book. Again this year. representatives from both staffs attended the CSPA Convention in New-York City. The Sutherland was awarded second place in the CSPA Newspaper Competitions. ASSEMBLY COMMITTEE The assembly committee ar- ranged'many assemblies this year with linancial support from the Touring Aid Program of the V1. Council of the Arts. They started it off with an excellent performance by the Navy Rock Band. followed by two plays. a demonstration of soundweaving. and ended the year with an encore presentation of Rosenshontz. L-R. A record amount of $l93 was collected for UNICEF. The Student Council also sponsored its annuai blood drive. Proctor High School was included in the Close-Up Program. Fifteen students and their adviser Mr. Orvis spent a week in Washington. D.C.. where they attended seminars and work- shops to learn about government. They stayed at the Skyling Inn in downtown Washington. Students were able to meet other students from all over Vermont. FUTURE HOMEMAKERS 0F AMERiCA Future Homemakers of America. headed by Mrs. Milnes. is a new club at P.H.S. Some of their activities included preparing food for the School Board Meetings and attend- ing the district meeting at Okerno Lodge in Ludlow. At the end of the year. two members were chosen to attend the leadership conference in Randolph.- SENIOR PROM The Senior Prom. taking the place of the annual Winter Carnival Ball, was held in April this year. Last year's queen. Ann Loso. returned to crown Ellie Socinski. The Queen's court was made up of seniors Diane Anderson. Terri Ballou. Nan I220. Beth Triller. and iuniors Randee Felie and Karen Blanchard. The band this year was 44 Magnum. -J WINTER CARNIVAL A few changes were made in this year's winter carnival because of the lack of snow. such as the elimination of snow sculptures. The eighth grade came in first in the overall competi- tion. The lalem show was won by Kathy Clark and Trish Matusiak who sang a medley of songs accompanied by Karen Patch on the saxophone. FRENCH CLUB This year was the first year for the French Cfub at P.H.S. The. members raised $2M? through three bottle drives, a food sale and a raffle. Twenty-five students and their adviser. They beat Rutland twice in the season at home 4-2 and at Rutland l-O. The team was captained by seniors Di Anderson. Ellie Socinski, and Nan Izzo. Sophomore Reeny Triller and high scorer Di Ander- son were CVGAL All-Slars. The girls are looking forward to a great season next year even though their: loosing 8 seniors to graduation. Front row. N. Led by Coach Kixie Austin the boys won their playoff. quarterfinal and semi- finai game. only to be stopped from winning the Class M title by Sacred Heart l-O. High scorers were junior Bernie Loso and sophomore Kevin Rani. The team was captained by seniors Jim Megan. Wally Tarazewich. and Ernie Racette. SOCCER The J.V. boys had a spectacular season with returning coach Dave Buskey with only one loss and eight victories. Scott Anderson led the team with the most goals for the season. The team was captained by iunior Tim Marceau. Curtis 23 24 VARSITY BOYS' BASKETBALL With only one returning senior at the beginning of the year and some major injuries the boys' team had a lot of obstacles to overcome before they could concentrate on making the playoffs. The team was captained by iunior Mike Fiske and senior Jim Morgan. Their record didn't show the obvious skill and teamwork this team had. Mike Fiske was named an MVL All-Star this year. Shackellord The girls. under the walchful eye of their new coach Richard Alberti. had a good start into their season by winning the annual Ludlow Tournament. Penny Finch. Ellie Socinski. and Reeny Triller won most valuable player awards. The team. captained by seniors Beth Triller and Ellie Socinski. ended the season with a 743 record. They made it to the playoffs but lost to West Rutland 53-33. Reeny Triller look the high scoring honors. Young JV CHEERLEADERS The voices of the peppy JV cheerleaders could be heard distinctly and Ioudly from the bleachers and floor during the JV games. The vocal support was aiso echoed during those tense moments on the varsity lines. . . . and so it goes ..;-..-.--. ! CROSS COUNTRY This year marks the second consecutive seascm for the cross- country team coached by Roy Pilcher. The boy's team included Jon Baker. Jeff Cook, Peter Jalberl. Kevm Jones. and Kevin Wheeler. The girrs team had only three membersv Andrea Jones. lynn Pilcher. and Marie Smith. As this was not enough for a team. the girls competed individually. The season started with an MVI. pre-season meet at Mill River and concluded with the stale finals in Montpelier in November. Everyone competed well against more exper- ienced teams. One Phanlorn runner. Jon Baker. was elected to the MVL All-Star team. The Proctorian apologizes to the cross-country team for not including any pictures of them. Our excuse? None were taken! 27 13 VARSITY BASEBALL Ending the IQSO baseball season as state runners-up the Proctor Phantoms finished with a lO-IO record. Beating Poultney. Ludlow. and B.EA. in the play-otfs. the Phantoms didn't fare as well against Oxbow's Bob Vallianl in the finals. Although Mike Fiske pitched a fine game for Proctor. the teams usually strong offense couldnit operate against Valliant's tough pitching. Biarne Skietne spoiied Oxbow's hopes for a no-hitter when he laid down a perfect hunt in the seventh inning. JV BASEBALL The JV baseball team ended their season with a 3-5 record. losing twice to Rutland and splitting their remaining games. Coach Dave Bus- key resigned in the middle of the season and was replaced by Floyd Lanphere. With 3 IA! record Lanphere managed to pull the team to 3-5. McPhee. M. King. M. Clough. PA Fredette SOFTBALL The girls' varsity softball team impmved last year's record impres- sively by ending the season with a 4-D regular season and a 5-l3 overall record. Their five wins consisted of defeating Poultney and MSJ twice apiece and also overtaking Whit- comb High in the Group II division quarter finals. Having been selected to par- ticipate in the Division II playoffs. they easily won that quarter-final match. This qualifying victory sent them to Bethel to compete against Rochester for the semi-final win. They were defeated. however. in a tight battle by a score of I3-9. In her first year of softball coaching lynn Johnson has worked extremely hard with her girls and has dame an exceptioual iob improv- ing skills and introducing new ones. 'e .IC-JT: Front row. 5. Trlller GOLF The l979780 golf team. coached by Mr. Wolynec. had almost an even season by winning 8 matches and losing 9. For the first time the golf leam qualified as a varsity sport. Letter winners included Dick Ander- son. Scott Anderson. Chris Perkins. and Greg Samara. Bill Allard. Car- oline Curtis. Joe Saceric. Charlie Zani. and Robert Shackelford made up the remainder of the team. N .Q rfmwf' me SPORTS BANQUET The annual sports banquet. a sponsored by me Phantom Boosters. honored the many students at P.H.S. who were active in the athletic program. Several of the teams which participated in various tournaments, including varsity girls'. iunior varsily boys' and iunior high girls' basketball teams and Ihe varsity soccer team. presented trophies to Mr. Tracy. Matt Kilcullen. varsily basketball coach at Castlelon State College. was the guest speaker. Diane Gray. the former Diane Anderson. has set up her own nursery school. So far her only enrollments are her ten little Grays. Terri Ballou. after 30 years of being a dental hygenist. found she couldn't look down another mouth. She moved to the deep woods of Chittenden where she can be found practicing on her pets. Jeff Barney has become a successful hog farmer. Jeff's secret to producing prize winning pigs is to play music to them. So far Jeff's earnings have gone into advanced hiefi systems he can carry over his shoulder. Rob and 81 formed the fantastic group The Cosmic Outlaws . When- ever they're not on a world tour. they can usually be found at Pica where they moonlight as ski instruo tors. Cara became a star pitcher for the softball team. the Proctor Bluebells. Cara helped found the team and said the one skill that helped her make it his was her ability to dodge balls hit directly at her. Hurley lost so much weight after graduation that it seems he just vanished into thin air. Laurie Coons. alter years of living next to a chicken farm. decided poultry was for her. She is now the proud owner of Laurie's Lovely Livestock. Jessie owns a chain of Tyrol motels that spreads across the country. Jessie. who was always keen on attendance. hasn't seen a dayis work in the last 20 years. Pat has his own dog walking service called Pat's Prancing Pooches . For $20 he will walk your dog anywhere you want. Dave. after working for UPS all these years. finally saved up enough money to marry Kim. They now live in Carlsbad. California. where they are raising their three kids. Because Sheila was very ac- cident prone. she decided that she should invest her money in the health field. She now owm Rutland Hospital and she gets free care whenever she needs it. Penny made It big in art and changed her name to Penny Van Finch. She can be found in her garret in New York City where she recently cut off her right ear. She sent it to Mrs. Dawson in appreciation of all the help she gave her in her early days. Charlie became the proud owner of Godzik's Game Farm. Every week he can be seen Out in the field hauling home the catch of the clay for Patti to cook. Nan Ratti. the former Nan lzzo. married Kevin who became manager of the NY Yankees. Nan helps the team by x-raying the bones of Kevin's players. They don't have a house yet because they spend most of their time in the dugout. 0 o 0 W Um After Pete got out of the Air Force. he joined a professional hoekey team. He is now married and he and his wife own and run their own hockey camp where he coaches neighborhood kids. Kevin graduated from U.V.M. and started his own complaint company. People will pay Kevin to call stores. offices. schools. etc. and complain for them. He is very successful at this since he got a lot of practice in high school. They had a record of 6-34. Top scorers were Chris Hughes and Johnny Soulia. They showed a lot of new talent and skill and hope to improve upon their record next year.
