Although its students come from many different backgrounds, it has a common goal: to prepare them for the future. These futures will be as varied as the student's lives. We, the class of 1961, upon graduation will scatter and go our different ways--perhaps Around the World--and we will contribute to humanity in diversified fields. It was for this reason we chose the theme for our yearbook: Je seme ia tout vent -- I sow to all the winds. fjagfe gf Gonfenfs Zak ?aye Seniors Zegkaffzm Honors anf 77604144 Qzoreworof Shim 57466 gf Gopfenfs Ofyanfzmbm Jacuiy Wcfzwbes Wdpfnfsffaffop fiffkffcs 7706 erfzlszby ...may ln addition to regular faculty, we would like to recognize the following teachers who substituted for several weeks: Mrs. McVeigh CFrenchjg Mrs. Bebee qMathjg and Mrs. Westin, director of the Glee Club. In recent years this purpose and recog- nition of those who excel in studies has become nationally prominent. Such programs as the Advanced Placement Program, the National Merit Scholarships, and the National Defense Education Act all testify to the breadth of serious interest on the part of the American people in superior education for our talented young people. Proctor High School has consistently had a higher proportion of good students than would be expected from its size. Much credit is due to the generally superior up until two years ago, there was no special recognition in the school program given to scholars. At that time the Student Council recommended and developed the machinery neces- sary to incorporate a chapter of the National Honor Society in Proctor High School. This society has well served its purpose in our school of encouraging and recognizing good scholarship. It is a real honor for a stu- dent to become a member of the National Honor Society and I commend all of those who have attained this position. At HODLSQZZZEETY the same time Iurge all 9th and 10th graders who would be Q '2 serious students to work hard so that they also may someday -2 , Eg be members of the National Honor Society. W ' gi . Others on the staffin- cluded Linda Buehl, Nancy Candon, Nick Principe, Howard Moody, Carol Austin, Har lan Tillberg, Peter Navari, Susan Wright and Gary Brown. This was only a skeleton staff--the yearbook was a class project. Special thanks to our business advisor, Miss Krouse, and the ambitious ad-getters Joann Hance, Joseph Manfredi, Helen Kabastura and Barb Ashley. It cost us a fortune, caused a lot of headaches--but--I-Iere it isl Throughout our golden years at P. H. S. we have created many moments to remem- ber. Our undying wit and charm have helped to make us the most memorable class to ever pass through these portals. In this, our class history, we endeavor to recreate the highlights of our journey to freedom from the underlying causes which tend to emulsify and disperse the joy from our childhood. Frosh--Parties! Parties! Parties! Our civic-rnindedness helped to erect a street light for the grade school's back yard. Freshman class song was, By the Light of the Silvery Moon. Sophomore--Reform! Reform! Reform! Parties erased from the minds and morals, we began to build the intellectual foundation which was to become the basis of our present genius. Juniors--from Beat to Buddha We were really gone, like out of it. We sponsored the Beatnik Ball, certainly the most outstanding success of the decadeg took the grand prize for Shock of His Life fafter placing third for two years in the Jr. One-Actsjg and puzzled Proctor with our esoteric Mahayana. Seniors--Fights I Feuds! Faults! Here we were at long last, our journey to freedom at a near end. Our qualities of leadership had fully matured and we now had thirty-one chiefs and no Indians. Pain- fully, we produced a play, processed a yearbook, and prepared for graduation. MAHAYAN The Secret of Life is Love Our Junior Prom . . . Gym decorated as a Budd- hist temple . . . nine-foot gold Buddha . . . mint tea and fortune cookies . . . S50 in the hole. V' f 0 Z1 9121014 y After being postponed, and with a few other minor headaches, the Senior Class presented its play, The Dead of Night. Opening and clos- ing night was December 10. The fun we had doing the play more than compensated for the few times when we were ready to call it quits. The cast included Harlan Tillberg, Susan Wright Joeseph Mattsson, Christie Stagg, Janey Curtis, Gary Brown, Carol Austin, Howard Moody, Nick Principe and Peter Navari. Director was Miss Isham. The play was a mystery-comedy. We don't know about the mystery, but it sure was a riotl e SUM efQ120f Our literary endeavor, published five times a year.
