In the cast were Louls Lertola L1ll1an Kmg Mane Macek Ann Curns ean Fregosl Elrnor ohnson Albert Vlgneau and Rosalle Colburn Thls great comedy drrected by Mrs Norman ohnson won hrst prrze Another new 1dea was '1 hayrrde whlch was a blg success for the lovers of P H S Agaln we made basketball programs whlch netted approxlmately three hundred dollars The members of our class were rapldly turmng mto polrtlcrans Louls Lertola was elected v1ce presldent of the Student Councrl and Ellnor ohnson and L1ll1an Krug were class representatlves In une Elrnor ohnson was chosen to represent the Student Councrl at the Natronal Student Councll Conventron 1n Wellesley Massachusetts Flrnor had the honor of leadrng a drscusslon rou Albert Vrgneau Robert johnson and LOUIS Lertola the three boys 1n our class gave us one hundred per cent on the baseball squad Not every class can boast such a percentage There was no football season but Bob and Louis played basketball Tn February we Went to the Class C tournament We won the flrst game but were defeated by Barton the class C champs ID our second game We were proud that oan L Herault was chosen C Tourney ueen The glrls softball team wasn t very successful but fun was had by the Mar1e Macek Ellnor ohnson was our CHIICICHI manager oan L Herault and Marle Macek made the varslty cheerleadrng squad and ean Fregosl became a V cheerleader Ann Curt1s ean FICgOS1 Mary ane McCullough and Therese Kallro were on the Varsrty basketball team and agam Ellnor ohnson was the manager oan L Herault and L1ll1an Krng went out for prrze speaklng and oan tled for thlrd place Ellnor and L1ll1an went to the Musrc Festrval ln Burlrng on Marre Macek was chosen to go to the Model General Assembly of th Unlted NHIIOHS held 1n Plymouth New Hampshrre She represented Canada As the year was drawrng to a close Elrnor ohnson and Marle Macek were chosen delegates to Cvrrls State and Robert ohnson and Lours Lertola to Boys State We looked forward to entermg our senror vear wrth the largest caprtal of all the classes IH Proctor Hrgh We thought th1s was the end of our buslest year but we were to hnd out we had never been so busv as we were gorng to be 1n the future SENIOR YEAR The great year had arrrvedl In our first class meetrng as semors we elected Lours Lertola presrdent ean Fregosl v1ce presrdent Marre Macek secretary and Marre Grancola treasurer Mrs Norman ohnson and Mrs Fontarne were chosen co sponsors When Mrs ohnson left for Germany to be vxrth her husband we gave her a Bon Voyage Partv at Elrnor johnson s home Mrs Frank ohnson from .I .Y -I , ' y I - A I . f . r'4, 4 U ' J ' , ' . Agaln wlth Mlss Cay as our sponsor we undertook the followmg actlvl t1es Sophomore Hop food sales Harvest Moon Dance a sklt for Hallowe en whlch won us ten dollars and the Sadre Hawkms Dance whlch we held m the town hall We started the 1dea of football and basketball programs an 1dea whrch proved very successful I thlnk we enjoyed gettlng the ads more than anythlng We sold candy at the football games Louls Lertola and Albert Vlgneau were on the football squad agam wlth Bobbv johnson JO1I'l1I'1g them on the basketball and baseball teams Our basketball team won the Marble Valley League and went to the C Tourna ment IH Burllngton The sophomore play was Candy Co s on a Dret w1th ohn Bresnehan Chr1stme Hmds Marle Macek Lours Lertola L1ll1an Kmg and Albert Vlgneau rn the cast M3f1lyH Duprey and Shella Fay were drrectors Agaln We won second PIIZC The Roman Banquet was agaln held at the Sutherland Club and We were the hosts Ellnor ohnson and Lou1s Lertola were on the Student Councll L1ll1an Kmg was agaln 1n the all state orchestra at the Mus1c Festwal ln Burlmgton For the first tlme a PTIZC speakmg contest was held under the s onsorsh1p of the Woman s Club Marle Macek oan L Herault and L1 han Kmg represented our class L1ll1an Kmg won second prlze Aga1n we hnlshed the year off w1th a successful plcnlc at Lake St Catherme JUNIOR YEAR Oh yes our class was dwmdlmg to almost nothmg for thrs year we were left w1th only slxteen Arlond Tanner left for the Army Farth Champlne and Dorls Yorke became engaged Chrrstme Hmds moved back to Rutland whlle ohn Bresnehan transferred to M S Qur class olhcers were pres1dent Elmor ohnson vxce presldent Lou1s Lertola secretary ean Fregos1 and Mane G1ancola treasurer as she was noted for her 1ntegr1tv MISS Gay who became Mrs Norman ohnson went further toward makmg the h1gh school 1nto ohnson ohnson and ohnson Incorporated Proctor Hlgh School lost one of 1ts best frlencls tlus year Mr Call went to MOIF1SV1llC to teach To replace hrm came Mr Rogerson Coach Wells replaced Coach Brokaw who was called back 1nto the Army and MISS Dewmg took over Mlss Kemp s posrtlon 1n the physlcal educatlon department I Cctober a teacher wlth many years of long and falthful servlce to the oung people of Proctor MISS MHIIOH Hackett was forced to ret1re because of lflness Mrs Fontarne took over her dutles IH Engllsh whrle Mr Lepore and later Mrs Murphv taught Latln and Engllsh Money monev was our crv and ln our v1s1ons danced not sugar plums but gold and srlver The presentatlon of the Junlor one act plavs was one of our blggest projects OUI' class presented A New School for Wlves . . . , ' 1 1 1 Y 1 . Rutland substltuted Llfltll the school could hnd a new math teacher He came in the form of Mr Lovzelle Mrs Macpherson was now teachmg muslc and Mlss Parkhurst handled glrls gvm Guy Loso left us to Jom the Navv We were now fifteen puplls trying to graduate Our flrst blg undertakmg was the sen1or plav Men Are Llke Streetcars The cast mcluded 111 the grrls except Ellen Bowman and Marle Glancola and all the boys except Robert ohnson who was manager and lncluded also two Jumor boys George Loso and Thomas Mohan and one sophomore oseph Clzmadn whom we had to borrow And a successful loan lt was' The plav was a smash h1t' Mrs Fontalne was the dlrector Louls Lertola was elected presldent of the Student Councll and Ellnor ohnson and Marte Macek senlor members These went to Burlmgton 1n Aprll for a state student councll conventlon at wluch Marxe Macek led a panel drscusslon Ellnor ohnson was chosen D A R rrl and Marre Macek queen of the C Tourney whlch was held 1n Barre aga1n thrs year Louts Lertola our star center made the all tourney team We lost our second game to Stowe who went on to w1n the champlonshlp Durmg basketball season we were very busy sellrng refreshments at the home games We also sold Chrrstmas cards and later Proctor banners Baseball started rrght after basketball and the boys looked very chic ln the1r new umforms Rosalre Colburn left us to get marrred and move to New ersey The Dlstrlct Une Act Play Contest was aga1n held IH Proctor Marte Mohan Anne Dynan and Ann Curtrs were 1n the cast of The Nelglabors Thls comedy dlrected by Mrs Fontame won first place 1n the cl1str1ct At the assembly before sprmg vacat1on It was announced that 'lean Fregost was valedlctorlan and Elmor ohnson salutatorran PTIZC speakmg was sponsored aga1n by the Womans Club Marte Macek oan L Herault and Lrllran Kmg all partrclpated and oan won second prrze Qnly a few hours after prlze speaklng contest at the amazmg hour of quarter to two 1n the mormng eleven semors and two chaperones Mr and Mrs Fontame left for the long and eagerly awalted semor tr1p to New York and Wash1ngton In splte of m1ss1ng bus wheels surtcases and pocketbooks we all enjoyed such events as tours of Wash1ngton and Mount Vernon a splash party the Broadwav htt muslcal Call Me Madam a yacht crulse a blg league baseball game a class banquet at 1 mght club and the Easter show at RHd1O Clty Muslc Hall We returned happv but exhausted R1ght after our class trlp Lrlllan Klng Mary ane McCullough Therese Kalllo Elmor ohnson Ann Curtls and anet Nav1r1 went up to Burlmgton for the muslc festrval We have arrrved today at the end of four hectlc but happy vears We shall look back upon these vears many tlmes m the future and remember w1th Wlstful pleasure the good tlmes and manv frlends to whom we now sav Auf Wleder se n MARIE MACEK jam.
