The series opened with Yass Hakoshima, ajapanese mimist who had studied for thirty years under Marcel Marceau. On their first tour of the United States, the Vienna Renaisance Chamber Orchestra performed music with original Renaissance instruments. Fea- turing Leonard Slatkin, the St. Louis Chamber Play- ers presented Works by such composers as Arnold, Winter, Roussel, Haydn and Gambini. Los lndios Ta- bajaras, two South American guitarists, performed songs which they had composed. Undoubtedly the an- nual Smith Concert Was the most exciting of the con- certs. Pianist james Dick, declared the favorite of musically sophisticated audiences, presented an outstanding selection of Beethoven, Rachmaninoff, Bach, and Lees as well as masterful explanations and introductions to the music. Every year Principia has an excellent series of concerts, providing a variety of cultur- al experiences. But this year's was exceptional be- cause all the performers had a tremendous rapport with the audience. All the con- certs Were personal and Warm. CCNCERTS
