Miss Andreia Portilho from the city of Brasilia was also delighted to be able to participate with the Youth For Understanding group and to live in Princeville. - This was Andreia's first big trip to another country. Andreia said she always wanted to visit another country and the United States was her first choice. The first question everyone asks her is, What is the biggest dif- ference between Brazil and the United States? Andreia has two answers to that. First, the school is a lot differ- ent, and second, the food. But she also adds that she likes them both. Andreia hopes to return to the United States and to Princeville with her par- ents. While in Princeville, Andreia's American family were Mr. and Mrs. William German and julie. Our fantastic football team completed the season with itfs 3rd straight Blackhawk Conference Champion- ship and Class 1-A state runners- up. The team went 9-O in confer- ence play and had an overall re- cord of 12-1, four of which games were played in the state play-offs. PRlNCES POWER really was the motto this year as we went past Blackhawk to defeat Forest Strawn Wing by a score of 40-8. We then Went on to play a rugged Strong- hurst-Southern team and defeated them with a score of 26-24. De- feating Stronghurst, the Mighty Princes came against a big Deer Creek-Mackinaw team. Dee-Mac fell with a 26-3 score. Winning this game the Princes received a legal holiday and on Friday, Nov- ember 2l, nearly the whole town of Princeville traveled to Bloom- ington-Normal to watch the Prin- ces play for the state title. The team and fans went home disap- pointed but very proud. We lost to a very good Concord-Triopia team 36-6. The team was met at the junction of 88 and 90 by a 5- mile line of cars and were es- corted back to the High School gym for a rousing pep rally to end our super season. xx L HX D! This has been a year of new experien- ces and success for the FFA. This is the first year the FFA operated a test plot which, along with our test plot field day, gave the members an op- portunity to use cooperation and lead- ership in making this a success. The members were also involved in many Section 5 contests such as public speak- ing and parliamentary procedure. Our chapter was entered in the Program of Activities, BOAC, and the Cooperative Activities Program. They also sent members to witness FFA at the high- est level--the State and National Con- ventions. The year was highlighted with a banquet catered by Big john's at the high school. ' -.' ' Z'z .5 V 5-F 1- Q, , S FAQ Q i-i n -Z. We are to carry to them the spirit of America. We must show them what went before, what lies ahead. We must lead them to seek, through the dimness of centuries, a gleaming line of silver white. It is the line of the Crusaders, steady, straight and string, the quest for the Holy Grail, the search for freedom. Back there, glimmering faintly in the dawn of history, stand the gods, their very names lost in the long ago. There are the prophets, and the teachers, and the lawgivers, a mighty host. There is Moses and those who followed him out of bondage. There are the martyrs. Now the line brightens a.nd broadens. We are nearer. We can see some of the faces. These are Columbus, Washington, Lafayette, Garibaldi. There is Lincoln. There is Roosevelt. There are the countless hosts who fought on the world's battlefields. We know them well The light streams from their faces. Their helmets gleam. Their swords flash fire. A fearless, dauntless, invincible army, they march on and on and on to the fullness of Freedom. They live. They are with us, children of America. They urge us on. They command us to go for- ward. Man has slaved through the ages that we might be free. He has battled that we might have peace. He has studied that we might know. I-Ie has left us the heritage of the ages that we in our turn might carry it on. Ahead of us are the children of the next genera- tion. It is for them that we must live. It is for them that we must go on. We are the torchbearers of liberty. We, too, must take our place in the search for freedom, the quest for the Holy Grail. It is for this, we, the children of America, were born. 120 - - - 1 A , . In this B1- Centennial year hlsto ry.
