H I I T I 1 ' F r 1 Several years after the tenth annual reunion of the class of 55 Clarence and Raylene Johnson Hodges decided to play the recording of the speech made at the reunion The speaker was Richard Baldwin the famous sportscaster from Chicago I am very glad to have this opportunity to talk to all my classmates I will tell about my recent trip to New York On my way I stopped at the Kentucky Derby and saw Lena Begners prize horse win first place ridden by the famous lockey Jerry Kneer After congratulating them I continued on my way to see the New York Giants play I was especially interested in seeing this game because Smoky Burgess was catcher for the Giants When I arrived in New York I hailed a taxicab and found Jeanette Hart as its driver She took me to the hotel where I was going to stay I was surprised to see John Russell as the hotel manager He called on his right hand man Ken Hohenbery to take the luggage up to the room John operator and chambermaid all rolled into one Later Jeanette picked me up to go to the ball park While we were talking over old times she ran a stop sign and was promptly stopped by two motorcycle policemen They proved to be Eldon Wright and Jerry Klaus They gave her a short warning and sent us on our way At the ticket window I purchased my ticket from Carol Kraft and I later purchased peanuts from Johnnie Neff the peanut vendor In the stands I met some of the Princeville members of the T965 World Olympics Dave Sutherland the fabulous shot putter Jim Ryan the old Princeville flash John Felton the brilliant pole vaulter Also in the group was the left slcle of the Chicago Bears line Elbert King end Ken Slane tackle Larry Westerman guard Jordan Elsasser center After the game we decided to walk over to Kay Sheets Steak House On the way we passed the WhittakerHyde School of Dancing Tuts I-lot Rod Shop Larry Smiths Land scaping Company and the Predmore West Fifth Avenue Dress Shop When we walked in we were surprised to meet Wanda Robinson and Nancy Noonen who were having a snack before going on duty as nurses PROPHECY After an enloyable dinner I decided to take a drive so I rented a car from the WrightRentaCar service Shirley Feucht was the secretary and promptly called Dave Oakes to bring a car out I stopped for gas at Guy Bolanders gas station As I headed toward the country I passed Burk n Doubets Drive In Out on the open highway I spied the C 8- J Shorthorn farm owned by Clarence Hodges and .lack Kuntz Verle Streitmatter and his hired hand Daryl Bouton were there with Verles tiling machine I headed back toward the city and when I took the car in I saw that Carolyn Stahl had replaced Shirley for the night shift Back at the hotel I found Janet Smith and Kay Smith who were attending a teachers convention The next morning in the hotel dining room Mary and Martha Westart were the waitresses on duty and they in formed me that Arlene Streitmatter was the dietician for the hotel I talked at breakfast with Juliann Kraft the airplane pilot and Donna Wilcoxen the stewardess who had brought Peter Lee back from China for the coming reunion I then went to the T V station to be interviewed on a sports review program There I met Raylene Johnson and Kay Ward who were the stations head stenographers The program before the sports review was a beautician program set up by Shirlee Ely and Gladys Sheets After leaving the T V station I went to my hotel for the night The next morning I iourneyed home to resume my duties as sportscaster PROPHECY COMMITTEE Larry Westerman Chairman Elbert Kung Jim Ryan Kay Smith Mary Westart Martha Westart Eldon Wright Page 59 I ' ' ' , , . , , -f 1 , . - ff .
