They have been the birthplace of our ideals, dreams, and ambitions. Here we have striven toward higher goals, and toward a better understanding of people and ourselves. During the past four years we have studied in classrooms and have attended many activities in the gym. This, it seems, expresses our feeling about the bus drivers -lVlr. Weaver, Mr. Bouton, and Mr. White--for truly, they play an important role in our school. In spite of hus trouhle or bad roads they are always courteous, understanding, and willing to he of service. Mr. Louis Daily Page lfz'e'1rw' BU DRIVER Mr. Harold Bouton, Mr, Harrison VVhite, Mr. Earl Weaver Our school is judged to a great extent hy the appearance of our class- rooms and halls. It is the duty of our janitor to keep them up to the highest standards. This is lVlr. Daily's hrst year as janitor at our school, and he has fulfilled the joh well, Later in the year, lVlr. John Conley was employed to assist Mr. Daily in his work. Needless to say, it takes much time and patience to keep uspic and spanl' a building which houses approximately two hundred high school hoys and girls. xf v' Sf ff J-v5,' Qnurn? auf!! 9 w SENIOR ADVISOR D SENIOR OFFICER 'I'Iiis is Miss KientzIe's secnncl zulvisur to nur elziss. H. S. line was going to be handicapped because of its light Weight as com- pared to some of the opponents. As the season progressed the team improved and put up hard battles but was not able to capitalize on any breaks to chalk up some victories. The team's best effort was a 6 to 6 tic against Chillicothe. UNIOR VARSITY The Junior Varsity team, after dropping its opening game to Chillicothe, rolled to live straight victories to Finish the season with Five Wins and one loss. 'as green freshiesf' At our first class meeting we chose the following officers: Betty jane McDonnell, President, Wendell Hutson, Vice-President, Bill German, Secretary- Treasurerg and Miss Gunsten as our class advisor. We all enjoyed the Freshman-Sophomore wiener roast and St. Patrick's Party, which helped us become better acquainted. The faculty, this year, consisted of Mr. Cordis, Mr. Saxton, Miss Kientzle, Miss Gunsten, Mr. Prettyman, Mr. Banner, Miss Runkle, Mrs. Campbell and Mr. Engelhorn. After a three months vacation we came back to school finding a change in our faculty. After serving in the army Mr. Hayden came back to take up his old duties, and Mrs. Brooks came to replace Mrs. Campbell, who left us to join her husband. This year we chose Wendell Hutson, President, Donna Allen, Vice-President, Audrey Buskirk, Secretary-Treasurer, and Mr. Engelhorn, advisor. This year we received second prize in the Stunt Show and again we enjoyed the annual wiener roast and St. Patrick's Party. On May 4 some of our members dressed as pirates, to help the juniors carry out their theme at the banquet and prom. After another three months vacation we were ready to start a very active year at P. C. H. S. as busy juniors. We found a few changes in our faculty: Miss Samsel re- placed Mrs. Brooks, and two of our teachers changed their names, Miss Runkle became Mrs. Grundler, and Miss Gunsten became Mrs. Hunt. Dartha Westefer took over the duties of Margaret -Chambers as office secretary. We started the year off by choosing the following oflicers: Betty Lindsey, President, Bill German, Vice- President, Audrey Buskirk, Secretary-Treasurer, and Miss Kientzle as our advisor. This year we combined our wiener roast with the seniors at Jubilee Park. We started right away earning money for our junior- senior prom. On November 1, we presented our junior Play, The Singing Ghost, under the direction of Miss Kientzle, our advisor. We served refreshments at the basketball games, sponsored the junior Masquerade Dance and April Showers Dance, both of which were a success, sold candy at noon, and sold basketball schedule pencils. Around Christmas time we sold Christmas cards. Our radio theme won us first prize in the annual Stunt Show this year. The biggest event of our junior year was our prom, Stardust, Freddie Stevens furnished the music for the event, held May 3 in the gym. One of the features of the prom was the grand march, after which Betty Lawrence, one of our class members, was crowned Queen. This ended our third successful year in high school. In 1948, our last year, we selected the following as our officers: Bill German, President, Jim Messersmith, Vice- President, Ed Harmon, Secretary-Treasurer, and again we chose Miss Kientzle as our very capable advisor. Our last wiener roast was held at Jubilee Park with the juniors. Our main goal this year was the publishing of our yearbook, the MAROON. Audrey Buskirk was our editor in chief. We began earning extra money for our book in various ways. We sold stationery, greeting and mailing cards, children's books, T-Shirts, and Christmas wreaths. We sponsored several dances this year, one of the most out- standing ones being the Sweetheart Dance held in the Town Hall, February 14. Mrs. Grundler, by vote, was the sweetheart of the evening. On March 12, the Senior Play, A Lucky Penny, was presented. Other activities sponsored by our class were Stunt Night, our Inter-Class Basketball Tourney, a carnival, and an Amateur Show which brought out many talents in all the classes. Our class and faculty chose Donna Allen for the D. A. R. award. Baccalaureate was held in the gym May 23, with Reverend Charles Smith, of the Methodist Church in charge of the service. On May 26, everyone enjoyed glasg Night, and, on May 28, we graduated from P. C. In our four years at P. C. H. S. we have had several changes in the personnel. We lost Martha Barrett, Mary Louise Bown, Charles Berry, Marilyn Boyer, joe Camp, Harold Friedman, David Harmon, Louise Gouldf,. Irene Malone, Lieselotte Mangold, Don Mitchell, Bob Murnan, Joe Oppe, Harold Starkweather, Betty Stockdell, Ruth Stoecker, and Cliff Theobald. We gained Marthajean Baughman, Mary Wys, Audrey Buskirk, Bernard Harney, Audrey Heinz, Ronnie Nona Snyder, joan Kelly, Verna Edwards, and Pat Harker. C. H. S. WILL COMMITTEE janet Martin, Betty McDonnell, Eugene Ely, Lester Smith. .., Page .rixty-one CLASS PROPHECY In a quaint caravan there's a lady they call the gypsy. She can look into the future and see whatls going onl Twenty years have passed since the Class of 1948 left P. C. H. S. The time now is 1968, the annual Princeville Homecoming has just started. While wandering around the park, taking in all the sights, I saw a stand advertising with Have Your Fortune Told by the Gypsy. When I entered the tent I was surprised to see none other than Pat Harker gazing into the crystal ball. Fortunes were forgotten, and Pat told me that Marthajean Baughman was still the P. E. instructor at the new high school, and that Pat Laisure was the social science teacher. Johnny Knell had been the coach there for the past twelve years, and Charlie Wilson was coach of the grade school. After leaving Pat's stand I stopped at 'f,Ioan's Lunch Box for something cold to drink. Joan Kelly was the Proprietor of this restaurant. While I was there Betty ,lane Fogerty Cformerly McDonnellD came in to buy her five children some refreshments. She said that they were now living on a farm south of Princeville. A familiar voice attracted me to the large tent in the middle of the park. Sure enough there was Wendell Hutson of Deer Creek singing I'm My Own Grandpa. Donna Allen and Marcella Whittaker did a dancing number. The committee for the Homecoming felt very happy to have been able to get these talented performers. To complete the program a trapeze act was done by Betty Messersmith fformerly Lindseyb. She and jim owned a large traveling company that performed at such gatherings throughout the United'States. After the show, on the way to town to do some errands. I stopped for gas at the first filling station. Duane Stahl was operating it. He told me that Harold Predmore, the second vice-president of the Northwestern Railrpad, had just stopped in a few minutes before. Duane and I reminisced about our school days, and then I proceeded on to Komp's Super Market. Donna told me that they had stores in nearby towns also. I stopped in at a cute little dress shop on Main Street to inquire if anyone knew of a place where I could stay, since the hotels were crowded. Janet Martin greeted me at the door of her shop. She seemed happy to see me and told me that since her business had increased she had a private secretary, Doris Oppelz, and a pretty model, Verna Edwards. Janet told me that Audrey and Keith had an extra room in their new home, so I went to stay with them. Audrey was very hospitable. We attended the movie that first night. Dean Heinz was manager of the theatre, and Betty Lawrence was selling tickets. By coincidence we saw Charlie Hemmer in the newsreel. He was general of the occupational army in Japan. After the movie Audrey asked me if I had noticed Don Streitmatter's farm near Edelstein. Since I hadn't she suggested that we drive out to see it the next day. Page .vixty-two Don had really been successful. He had the largest dairy farm in this area. While we three were discussing our classmates, Don told us that we should call on his neighbor, the former Emily Menold, while we were in the vicinity. After we had arrived at Emily's, Audrey decided to stay until evening, but since my vacation was limited and I wanted to try to see every classmate, I drove back to Princeville. On the way back to Princeville a terrible mishap occurred. Someone ran headlong into my car. At once a Wrecker driven by Eugene Talbert arrived and also the ambulance driven by Bernard Harney. Of course, Wayne Miller was along too, for it was the Miller Funeral Home Ambulance that came. Wayne was terribly excited. He wanted to know what the after effects were, for he needed a customer because people just weren't dying! On arriving at the Harmon Hospital, owned by Ed Harmon, I was greeted in the emergency room by Dr. George McManis and Nona Snyder, R. N. From there I was sent to X-ray, where the head nurse of that depart- ment, Della Streitmatter, X-rayed me. They decided il learned laterj that I had a severe brain concussion and that a serious brain operation was necessary. It was fortunate for me that two famous brain surgeons, Dr. Dale Dickinson of Canada and Dr. William German of Kentucky, were in Princeville for the Homecoming. The former Ruth Guth was ready to serve since her husband was one of the doctors that were performing the operation. Immediately following the successful operation, Dr. German called the switchboard operator, Barbara Delbridge, to get a special nurse as quickly as possible. She called Frances Fairfield, R. N., who was on the case immediately. While I was at the hospital I had very good meals planned by the dietician Cleta Stewart and prepared by her assistants. After a few days a nurse came into my room to take a blood test. She was Audrey Heinz, the laboratory tech- nician. Toward the end of the first week I was visited by Eleanor Asal and Mary Wys. Eleanor told me that she was Arthur Baurer's secretary. Art had developed a new hybrid seed corn and it was necessary for him to hire a large office staff to take care of the orders he received. Mary worked in the office also, Mary told me that Eugene Ely was farming a large farm near Speer. I After I was well enough to talk business, I had a lawyer called in to help me settle with the driver of the other car for damages. I learned that Lester Smith was a good lawyer, and since we had been classmates, I hired him. When I had fully recovered I returned to my duties of training nurses at john Hopkins in Boston.
