A. l, 2, 3 4 Club 2, 3, 4' SE IOR CLASS HI TQRY It was a bright sun-shiney day on August 31, 1942, when we first entered P. C. H. S. as green freshies. In a few days we became acquainted with each other and the faculty well enough to choose our officers and advisor: Rosene Conley, President, Louise Wagenbach, Vice-President, and Joyce Delbridge, Secretary-Treas- urer. We elected Miss Kientzle our advisor for the first year and each of the following years. During our first year we entered the Stunt Show, enjoyed our annual wiener roast with the sophomore class, and originated the Freshman-Sophomore St. Patrick's Party. The death of Louise Wagenbach, our beloved Vice- President, in January of our first year was indeed a great loss to all. The members of the faculty when we forty-four freshmen entered, were: Mr. Cordis, Miss Walker, Miss Runkle, Miss Kientzle, Mr, Reifsteck, Mr. Boynton, Mr. Hayden, Miss Engelking, Mr. Saxton, during the year Miss Flynn replaced Miss Engelkingg Mrs. Camp- bell, Mr. Boynton. Glenn Sniff joined our class While we were freshmen, jane Ann Kneer, james Ohlman, Betty Mclntyre, and Mary Alice and joan Somsag moved away. Harry Smith, Orville King, and George Baumgardner quit school that year. As enlightened sophomores we again chose a good set of officers: President, Paula Allen, Vice-President, Corinne Miller, and Secretary-Treasurer, Rosene Conley. The talent of the sophomores won first place for us in the Stunt Show, this year we also had our wiener roast and St. Patrick's Party with the freshmen. On April 1, twelve of our members, dressed as pickaninnies, helped the juniors carry out their Old South theme at the banquet and prom. This year we gained James McDonnell and lost Barbara Ladd, William Gould, and Forrest Krummel. We found some changes in our faculty: Mr. Prettyman replaced Miss Walker, Mr. Boynton returned from the Air Corps, and Mr. Hayden entered the army. During the year Mr. Banner took over the duties of Mr. Reif- steck, the Ag teacher. We came back as happy juniors and started in immediately earning money for our Junior-Senior Prom. We had several record dances on Fridays at the begin- ning of the year, gave our play Are You Mr. Butterworth? , on November 163 served lunches at the basketball games, and sold candy at noon. However, we took time off form our duties for a little pleasure, and journeyed to Jubilee State Park for our Junior-Senior Wiener Roast, and also entered the Stunt Show. Having worked hard on our prom, we will always think we presented the best prom ever to be given in P. C. H. S. The theme was Loveland , the date was April 145 the music was Freddie Stevens'. 'Our junior class officers capably supervised all our activitieszl Jeff Steitmatter, President, Donald Schindler, Vice-President, and Paula Allen, Secretary-Treasurer. Our class, with seven members in the cast, was well represented in the Dramatics Club Play, My Heart's In High, on May 4, three juniors went to the sectional speech contest, and two went on to the state. There were some new faces around school this year for Miss Gunsten was the new Home Ec teacher and Mr. Engelhorn came here as Coach. Although we welcomed a new member, Betty Wilson, to our class, we regretted losing Armond and David Sloan. -Beginning our last year in school as sophisticated seniors, a little sad, but a little proud, we started to work on our yearbook. We were fortunate to continue our senior year with the same class members. The faculty changes were: Mr. Hayden came back from the Army to take up his old duties, and Mrs. Brooks came to replace Mrs. Campbell, who left us to join her husband. We sponsored the annual Stunt Show to finance the MAROONg and on November 16, the gym was the scene of the Senior Carnival, which was the first carnival to be presented in our school for a number of years. You remember Donna Allen and Fred Lindquist were chosen queen and king. An Amateur Show sponsored by the Seniors was given on February 1 to a large audience who appreciated the varied program, it also was a financial success as far as the seniors were concerned. Entering the speech, vocal, and instrumental contests in our last year we won many honors. The seniors worked to win high honors in the band contest, too. A junior-senior party, March 7, proved the old saying, Too much work and no play makes jack a dull boy, an unwise saying. On May 4 we were honored by the juniors at the junior-Senior Prom, an event toward which we had been looking all year. Sunday evening, May 26, the Bacca- laureate Service for the Seniors was held. On May 29, the day following our hilarious class night, we marched up the aisle for the last time as students of our great school. Our officers, who served faithfully during the year were: President, Corinne Miller, Vice-President Wyan Stockdell, and Secretary-Treasurer, Dartha Westefer. Before entering the service he coached at East Peoria High School. He was instrumental in getting football started at P. C. H. B. I-IAYDICN After serving in the Armed Forces, Mr. Hayden returned to take up his duties as assistant coach. Mr. Hayden is to be congratulated for coaching the junior Varsity Basketball team to a victorious year of many wins and few losses. He was also in charge of those boys who were out for track. Calendar Committee: Mildred Snyder Marjorie Duffy jeff Streitmatter C ASS PROPHECY May 29, 1966. just twenty years ago today thirty-four happy, yet sad, seniors graduated from P. C. I-I. S. Time has passed by rapidly and the '46ers have changed from dignified seniors to successful people in the business world. To find out what was new in the lives of the '46ers I hopped into my new rocket plane, fastened my safety belt and off I went to visit my old classmates of long ago. Up, up, up and away. What is that I see below me I thought as I Hew over Edelstein. And guess what?? It was such a big dairy farm that I decided to land to see who owned it. As I hopped out of my rocket plane I saw Nate Martin coming to greet me. He was as big and jolly as ever, and wealthy, too! Nate married Evalyn Baurer, a sweet girl and good wife. One never knows what will happen next. After a short visit I was up, up, up,and away again. The next place I landed was in Chicago. There I saw Paula Schindler, the former Paula Allen, and her husband Don working together in their oH'ice, The Loans and Lends Corporation. Squeakls becoming very successful, although he is still as slow as ever. While in Chicago I also saw Jim McDonnell. He is now a great artist, he had attended colleges and art schools for a number of years and had realized that art was his ambition. It was getting rather late so off I went again. The next stop was New York, where I arrived at eight in the evening. Walking down Fifth Avenue, I accidently bumped into Rosene Conley. She is now singing at the Metropolitan Opera. I remembered her saying she wanted to be a great operatic soloist some day and sure enough she isl Before leaving New York, I met a lot of my old pals once more. At a science laboratory I was visiting I saw Corliss Laisure working strenuously on new and better methods for the use of atomic energy. Corliss had aged greatly and told me that experimenting was no easy task. As I was very hungry I ate a delicious dinner at the Duf-Laub Restaurant owned by Marjorie Duffy and Verna Lauber. They told me of some of their interesting experiences in the restaurant business. Tired and exhausted I decided to stay overnight in the Beam Hotel, one of the newest and most fashionable hotels in town, it is owned and managed by Bessie Beam. The next morning I left for Europe, a short journey in my rocket plane, I reached Paris in less than twelve hours. Here, I was surprised to see my very good friend Don Page .rixty-four Murray teaching classical music. I remained in Paris a few days and heard Don sing in one of his original operas I Love Poetry. From Don I learned that Joyce Delbridge was in Spain, so I hopped into my plane and went to see her. She told me she had married Bob Valline and they had come to Spain on a vacation to enjoy the famous bull fights. They explained that they were really always on vacation, for they had retired a few years ago. It was on the opposite side of the world that l found Dorothy Kellogg, a missionary to the young people of China. There I also saw Mary Vera Slane, a reporter for the New York Times. After a very interesting visit with these two '46ers I went directly to Japan. In japan I was quite astonished to see Duane Camp, who was, as you know, recently appointed ruler over the Japanese. I knew he would go places in this great world and sure enough he has! During my stop in Hawaii, Wyan Stockdell showed me his pineapple grove. He also showed me the beautiful estate to which Zeke and Florence fSmi'thD Sniff planned to retire when Zeke completes his term as president. Zeke has been such a good President during his one term that we regret that he will not consider a second term. Florence, the first lady, has faithfully written her daily article, What a Day. I decided I would go back to the United States again for I wanted to see some of my other friends before traveling South. I arrived in Los Angeles early in the morning and was walking in the park when I met Frances Leonhardt. She was taking her cocker spaniel for a walk. Frannie had married a noted lawyer and was living in a vine-covered cottage. In Hollywood I saw Elvin Bouton. Shorty was his nickname in 1946 and still is. He has taken Cosrello's part in the movies. It seems as though Hollywood has discovered another talented '46erg for I saw Corinne Miller, who is now a famous dramatic actress, taking a leading role in the play, Ballard Left Me. If I remember correctly, she had a high school flame by the name of Al Ballard. I wonder if that had any connection with the play. Before traveling on I went to Oceanside, where I found the former Gladys Wieland, who was now the wife of the swimming instructor, Pat Chambers. They have a beautiful home near the beach. I left California for Washington, and while strolling down one of the streets in the business section of Seattle, I noticed a familiar name on a sign board: Howard Marshall, M. D. His motto is Cut 'em up and sew 'em up. I recalled that he had always planned to be a doctor, even back in high school. On my way south I stopped in Boise, Idaho, where I found another classmate, Lorraine Mueller, the wife of a great potato grower. Also in the same town visiting Lorraine was her old pal, Mildred Snyder, who was touring the United States after having acted for several years as secretary to Henry Ford II. After another short but interesting visit I was up, up, up, and away again. South America was my destination. When I arrived there, I visited a coffee plantation in Brazil owned by Vernon Stoller. I always thought Vernie would be a farmer but coffee interested him more. Jeff Streitmatter happened to be in Cuba when I stopped there. He is now overseeing the United States' sugar interests in Cuba. From Cuba I flew back to the United States, landing at Miami Beach, I saw Dorothy Cavadas, a life guard, who has won several awards for having saved so many lives. On my way back to Illinois from Florida I stopped in Sweet Briar, Virginia, where I saw Dartha Westefer, a teacher in Sweet Briar College. Before coming directly to Illinois, I stopped in Missouri and visited Martin I-Iohulin, who was a small farmer and bachelor as he'd always wanted to be. Happy was I when I landed in East St. Louis and found Dick Komp, a wholesale grocer. Dick informed me that Kathleen DuBois was in Springfield so I stopped to see her as I passed through, she is now secretary to the Governor of Illinois. Back to Princeville and my home town, I saw Mrs. Jay Jones CBetty Wilsonl, who told me that Shirlee Snyder was planning soon to celebrate her twentieth wedding anniversary. Yes, she was married soon after graduation. I visited Mr. Cordis, who was still principal at P. C. H. S., and as friendly as ever. I told him of my tour and the success of each and every '46er. He was pleased to hear about my interesting travels.
