To The Class of 1956: This year as for so many years in the past the publication of the Freshman Herald affords me the opportunity to greet the members of the entering class. As I told you in my letter which was published in the Freshman Handbook, I am happy to continue this custom and to welcome the Class of 1956 to the Princeton family. You have come to us from many schools of many types and from all sections of the country. We believe that you represent a carefully selected cross section of the best among contemporary American youth. We are proud that the Class presents a wide geographical and economic spread,, that it is drawn from no one section or one compartment of our American democracy. These facts contribute to the continuation of the tradition of Princeton as a national institution.
