The Mathematics Department added several elementary math courses in an effort to prepare students for army and navy calcu- lation. Mathematics 108b, which combines an introduction to coordinate geometry with differential and integral calculus, was instituted for first year engineers. Optional lectures were given on the slide rule and special math courses made available to those wishing them immediately for government service.
